  1. I'll start with making my prediction that the first player in the draft will get paid way more than he's worth.....I'm glad you guys are going to hold a live chat.Don't forget to scoop everyone on any trades so we don't have to hear on ESPN or the NFl.Network....

  1. Type your comment here...Mike,

What is the latest information on the report that the Pats were trying to trade up to a top 10 pick for their 1st and one of their 2nd round choices? Who are they talking to and who do you think NE would be interested in....Ayers?

  1. Heard roger goodell on the radio this morning predicting 36 million people watching the draft saturday. beating any other sporting event this weekend

  1. Its 4:10 and I see no live chat. this makes me sad.

  1. Jack, it's Friday today....rather than Saturday....which would make a draft chat rather pointless (considering it will cover what's actually going on during the real draft....which is Saturday). That being said, I'm also sad the chat isn't happening, because that would mean the draft was today rather than almost 24 hours away.

    Oh, the humanity.

  1. Oh, cant wait!

  1. Pats trying to sneak up and get a falling Crabtree at that 8-10 spot...hmmm, then either english or barwin at 34, then gilbert or chung at 58, best available OL in 3rd and RB in 4th or vice versa. The spread offense with another stud like crabtree with moss and welker in slot would be a nightmare scenario for defensive coordinators

  1. mock draft this morning has no Everett Brown DE/OLB from Florida St.....Not sure if just a brain fart or u actually think he won't go in the first round.  I would LOVE for the pats to have the choice of drafting him @ #23.  I think Mikey Reiss didn't have Jarod Mayo in his first round mock last year........Here's hoping he is 2 for 2

  1. If only to jump the gun on the chat... Detroit has reportedly come to terms with Matt Stafford on a huge contract with the most guarenteed money ever given to any player ($40+ million), rookie or proven vet. This is absurd. If he is a bust, and history tells us there is a very real chance he could be, the Lions will be set back years in rebuilding an 0-16 team.

My question is this: If an unproven commodity such as Matt Stafford was available as a free agent, how many teams would offer him a contract of size? How much of this is Detroit paying for the "privilege" of picking first in the draft?

  1. Mike, with the Cardinals lowering their asking price for Bouldin to a second rounder plus other considerations, could the Pat's make a run at him? Maybe then trade Lewis and/or Galloway for a pick or two in the later rounds. Thoughts?

  1. it would be nice if you would provide a quick link for questions.
I wanted to submit this one. Scott Wright, in his mock draft at DraftCountdown, referred to Terrance Wheatley as having a "really disappointing rookie season". I know you are a good company man and are loathe to make such harsh assessments, but can you at least say if you disagree with Scott.

  1. More to come throughout the day. Jojo -- I had Mayo at 29 last year. Brown and Maybin slipped out in my projection. Wasn't an oversight. Pure 4-3 DEs who could go 11 to Buffalo, 13 to Washignton or 14 to New Orleans, but I didn't see many other spots based on the teams' remaining, the style they play, and the need they have. It is a crazy draft that way. Chris, don't see Boldin. Alex, I would disagree in calling Wheatley disappointing. I thought he coming on before he was injured for the season in early November.

  1. So here it is, Christmas day for football fans, and where is the Globe football blog??? And people wonder why the Globe is in trouble??? One reason I can think of as a sports fan: the football coverage is a yawn, completely predictable and boring. Oh wait, there will be "chat" later today when everyone will be watching ESPN. And for all of you who are waiting for the Globe to scoop everyone today with Pats picks and or trades - very doubtful. Try to remember the last time the Globe had a genuine Pats scoop. Sadly, mostly what the Globe does is rewrite Pats press releases and press conference transcripts.

  1. joejohnson, I hear you can get very original stuff from the Herald. Seems like the place you should be. But no whining.

  1. Hey boys here we go

    I want ayers anyone else?

  1. Sanchez will be a big bust IMHO

  1. SF is happy - Creabtree fell to them. Wow.

  1. Half the Jets fans on TV looked like they knew what will eventually bear out...the Jets blew it AGAIN!

I hate NY! But I love this bonehead move.

    Defense, defense, defense.

  1. GOOOOO COLTS

Posted by ELI April 25, 09 07:01 PM
  1. Why do the Pats need so many picks this year instead of picking extras for 2010?

Four in the 2nd round? What the heck?

Very puzzled. I guees since they have done so badly with so many
2nd round picks in the past that they need a bunch to score on one or two.

Posted by John V. Gray April 25, 09 07:05 PM
  1. Aren't first round picks the building blocks of the future ? Three good LB were there for the Pat's and Bill trades away the pick yet again.

Are the Pat's getting cheap now !

Posted by Mike April 25, 09 07:12 PM
  1. Ughh.Great move letting Donald Brown go to the Colts.C'mon Bill I know your the master but make a damn pick already!!!

    Posted by G Gray April 25, 09 07:15 PM
  1. I agree with Mike #21. Who is going to play* linebacker*? Teddy B is almost as old as I am and Vrabel is gone. BB surely has something up his sleave, don't you Bill?
(I guess AT and Mayo are pretty good start.)

Posted by The Brain April 25, 09 08:20 PM
  1. LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE these players the pats are picking. This is going to be a FANTASTIC year. Chung sounds like a stud who 'puts fear into opposing quarterbacks', etc. etc. And why not pick up the best stud nose tackle in the draft?

Posted by Robert A. Bouie April 25, 09 08:22 PM
  1. Jasper Brinkley from So Carolina would be a solid choice at LB if he is there at 58.......and Sidbury is still on the board right now as well.....

Posted by Scott April 25, 09 08:48 PM
  1. with all the picks in the 3rd round, I would like to see the Pats grab QB Rodney Landers out of JMU. This kid is a true wildcat, He can run and throw and could play along with Brady/

    Posted by mhed58 April 25, 09 08:51 PM
  1. Just what we need for a back up QB...a "real wild cat". Yep, those are the WEEI listeners. Have the best run team in the league, and yet long for the days where you have to run a gimmick offense. Idiot.

Posted by Hitman April 25, 09 08:57 PM
  1. sounds like the PATS are gearing up for a possible loss of WILFORK if he demands to much $$$. PATS have young untested linebackers, RUDD, GUYTON, WOODS. I guess BB thinks our kids are better then whats in the DRAFT, at least they have some time under their belts, and know whats expected out of them this next season. Whats the rest of the Draft going to look like? No doubt he will trade some for next years draft. (in BB we trust)

  1. So, Miami's gimick Idiot offense that beat the Pats was foolish, Now Denver and the league are starting to copy them.
Remember San Frans West Coast offense?
    Get with the times

    Posted by Mhed58 April 25, 09 09:07 PM
  1. The Pats are starting to look like a cheap skate organization. Three very good linebackers were allowed to go to other teams. So far, I'm very disappointed in this draft.........

Posted by RDee April 25, 09 09:09 PM
  1. The Pats are screwing up this draft royally. The Pats have gone way past the point where they have the luxuory of picking replacement players for guys that may leave in Free agency next year or the year after. They need linebackers. Why are they letting all of the stud backer's go by the wayside. Chung and Butler, another couple of munchkin DB's is not helping our cause. The Pats have definitely swung and missed on Day 1. Hopefully Day 2 will be better.

    Posted by Pluto29 April 25, 09 09:15 PM
  1. Stud LB's?????
You all talk like you know football better than BB........give me a break!!!
Brace was a steal....in fact he was the guy that ate up double and triple teams which means he is the reason Raji went so high.....Brace is a STUD.
Butler, per BB, is the most athletic CB that BB has ever worked out!!
I would be inclined to trust BB more than you Colt fans that are trying to whine on our board.

Posted by Scott April 25, 09 09:22 PM
  1. Mike Vrabel was right. Patriot Place was paid for with football money and now the fans are paying again. Moving out of the 1st round was all about money.

  1. Can we all finally stop drinking the Kool Aid and cut the BB is a genius crap. Letting Asante Samuel go was the a bad move and what do they do after they found out the guys they drafted just dont have the talent they go to the scrap heap for guys who were good 5 yrs ago now they trade out of the first round to get some UCONN chump the kid cant play otherwise he'd be at a better school. and Chung? who the hell is he

  1. Pluto is right ! Too bad there is nothing left to draft in day 2............ What a lousy day. At least the Sox made the Yankees look silly again.

Posted by RDee April 25, 09 09:42 PM
  1. it's almost like BB is deliberately snubbinghis nose at all those who think the Pats need linebacking help. Sebastien Vollmer in the 2nd round makes no sense, could have waited 3 rounds & had him.
hopefully an ilb will get taken at some point (before the 7th rd)

Posted by bernie mill April 25, 09 09:42 PM
  1. Has everyone forgotten that the Pats took about dozen LB's last year. Guyton played 50% of the snaps last year. Mayo played every snap. We picked up two starting LB's last year and two other guys who made the roster. Maybe BB didn't think these guys were as good as advertised considering he passed on them 2,3& 4 times. Jason Taylor is sitting and waiting to join the Pats as well.

Posted by RICEINTHEHALL April 25, 09 10:10 PM
  1. last time we took a "hard-hitting" safety....we're still waiting for him to develop (meriweather). I like picking butler (a projected 1st rounder at 23) in the 2nd round though. we need a lb or two...

Posted by MP April 25, 09 10:24 PM
  1. Since the Patriots didn't pick an outside linebacker in the first two rounds, I think that means they have a deal going with Taylor after the draft.
