Pick is long-snapper Ingram

Posted by Christopher L. Gasper, Globe Staff April 26, 2009 05:06 PM

With their sixth-round pick (No. 198 overall), the Patriots selected long-snapper Jake Ingram of Hawaii.

The 6-2, 232-pound Ingram walked on at Hawaii, but earned a scholarship as a long-snapper. He handled the full-time long-snapping duties for Hawaii in 2006, 2007 and 2008.

The Patriots signed free agent long-snapper Nathan Hodel from the Arizona Cardinals to replace Lonie Paxton, who signed with the Denver Broncos. Ingram will provide training camp competition for Hodel.

  1. The Pats could have the two best LSs in the league going into TC. How about a punter now.

  1. Some people might not like this pick, But I see value, why not take someone who has a chance to make the team? LS isn't a popular pick but it's good with me.

  1. Hodel only got a 50K bonus, so that is all it will cost if we relese him.

  1. Good luck, Ellis. We appreciate that you played at 100% and gave all you had every time you took the field.

  1. Ingram will "provide ... competition for Hodel"? Are you serious?

Every pro and college coach who's seen him calls him the best LS in a generation.

  1. Sayer - are you serious? That's great if it's true. Any links to confirm he's "the best in a generation?"

  1. Philip Rivers had it right a couple years ago, Ellis Hobbs is the "sorriest corner in the league". He likes to show boat after any good play. At at best he is an average 2nd corner. Now he can go back with Asante and do their posing after a Pick. To bad he wasn't in the same area code as Burress on the winning catch in the Super Bowl.
