Sneak peek at Fred Taylor and Reebok throwback

QUINCY -- On Wednesday, new Patriots running back Fred Taylor was in town as part of a photo shoot for Reebok and the NFL's upcoming 50th anniversary celebration of the American Football League. Taylor was photographed in the Reebok throwback jersey that the Patriots will be wearing twice during the 2009 season.
Prior to the photo shoot, Taylor shared some of his thoughts about making the transition from Jacksonville to New England after 11 seasons:
"I'm prepared," he said. "I was excited about the change, and it took a couple of days for it to kick in. After being in Jacksonville for all that time, it's a big deal. I was set up there, comfortable. Just to change, I didn't know what to expect. I still don't know exactly what to expect, but I'll figure it out. I've been around the block.
"After speaking with Wes Welker, and then speaking with Tom [Brady] -- we had played cat-and-mouse a couple of times on the phone before hooking up text messaging; he's excited, and I'm excited to be playing with a living legend, three [Super Bowl] rings. I just want to come and do my part, whatever it is, whatever my role is. They haven't guaranteed anything for me. I just want to be a part of making this work."

That picture is... not flattering. I'm all for nostalgia, but I cannot fathom why so many people want a return to these or the later throwbacks and Pat Patriot. They look terrible. Long live the blue and silver, and the Flying Elvis.
when do these jerseys go on sale!!!
dude...just stay healthy and run hard
not flattering? I think those jerseys look great!
Boston boy here, living in Jacksonville. Jag fans already miss Freddie. Pats fans are going to love him.
Richter, I agree, I love the newer uniforms! Classy looking, just like the team!!
Anyone care to guess how many yards Taylor will rush for this year? My crystal ball says 880 and over 1000 from scrimmage.
I think he's capable of breaking 1000 rushing yds., but it depends on how Belichick rotates the backs this season. High hopes though.
And while the nostalgia of the old unies is sentimental, the Pat Patriot has always been kinda lame.
Those uniforms are so f'n ugly
Hey, quick follow-up. Is it true that the old logo was changed to the "flying elvis" because Kraft was thinking of moving the team to St. Louis where they would be caled the St. Louis Spirits? And, the new logo can be made to look like a 'spirit'? Just wonderin'.
Think it would look better if the socks were solid red.
As I watched him run on the video clips, I immediately thought of Corey Dillion. Taylor runs with Corey's power, but he has better jukes and gets more yardage. He's quietly appears to have something to prove--a perfect fit to the Patriot Team concept. He'll be a beast, when he's number is called.
Hey Giraud, Quincy boy here, living in Orange Park. We should hook up for a game somewhere one Sunday. I need some help against all these idiotic Giants fans around here. I agree. I think Taylor will be a great role player for the Patriots. He's still very capable.
i wouldnt want to see the throwbacks stick around but atleast bring them back a few games a year. i have a throwback wes welker jersey i had the pats proshop make me. we're going to crush everyone!
he is going to turn it on in the playoffs..ALRIGHT
does your crystal ball also say maroney gonna be in a cheerleader uniform this season?
mine does
stupid, garbage uniforms.
What a bunch of mooks. That image of Taylor in the original colors is HOT.
Note to fanboys--it's red sox season--move along now.
The only mook here is you, Ghost. I'm no Sox fan, these jerseys are just awful. Now go get cast in an action movie so you can meet the same fate all mooks do.
i really loved the old red jerseys and Pat Patriot on the helmet - but: where the Pats
supposed to dress the similars to the 1963 Boston Patriots uniforms ?
Tom Brady is going to look so God damn good in that. I am so excited to see another class act in Fred Taylor, FRED TAYLOR, playing for the worlds best sports franchise. Red Sox, smedsh shocks; football season never dies. The Patriots provide so much enthusiasm to my life. If they were non-existent, I don't know where I'd be.
I also love how Taylor, a possible future hall-of-famer refers to Thomas Brady as a living legend... How much more respect could you ask for?
BIll Belichick and Tom Brady until I die.

Hi Mike: do you know when the Pats will play with the throwbacks unis ?
3 games are expected and 1 is the Buffalo game at Foxboro: What about the other two games ?
Wellcome back Pat Patriot ! Finally we will see the Patriots play with their best uniforms
Hey Richter--some of us knew that the team existed pre-Kraft and pre-Flying Elvis. And some of us like the throwbacks. Memories of Steve Grogan and Mosi Tatupu wouldn't be the same without the old uniforms. You want ugly? Take a look in the mirror.
Hi Mike,
You mention in article, that Patriots will wear the throwback Jersy twice, I know, they will wear it against Buffalo, what about the second time. When will they wear it?
Thanks
Love those old uniforms. I go back to day 1 in 1960 with the Tricon helmets. I don't like the flying Elvis logo.
AWESOME. Awesome uniforms. We need to keep these.

sairus,
That IS the 1963 uniform (though I'm not sure about the socks.) If you're thinking of the helmet with just the shape of the Paul Revere-ish hat and player number, that was only used in their 1st season and then changed to Pat Patriot the following season. The stripes were later reversed to white-blue-white.

Stop hating those uniforms are the best looking throwbacks in the NFL. Boot leg fans
Honestly, I couldn't care what they're wearing on (or off) the field, as long as they win the game. This isn't the fashion channel, it's football. Come on, people.
That being said, I prefer the color blue to the color red (just in general, not specifically for clothes), so I prefer the new uniforms.
How can you not like those jerseys? They are extremely smooth, slick, stylish, unlike many other teams vintage jerseys.
Fred Taylor looks great, and I can't wait to see him play for us.
(JonfromWorcester) FYI, Kraft was never thinking of moving the team to St.Luis. He bought the team to keep it here in New England. About the logo change that was done before Kraft, And those previous owners were on the verge of bankruptcy and thinking of moving to St.Luis. So I think that was the original plan with the Logos, but not 100%. All praise Kraft for keeping the team here. Woot go Kraft!!!
Guarantee you this...those uniforms will not look ugly when #12 runs out onto the field in one at Gillette come September.
Thanx Bmelo, I knew something didn't sound right in that. So, it was the previous owners who were thinking of moving. In any case, Kraft is the best owner in the NFL, hands down.
Did anyone else pick up on the fact that the Fred Taylor pose was a
"re-shoot" of an early PR and program photo of Patriot running back
Ron Burton?? In 60 I was 9 so been a Pats fan pushing 50 years.
Really looking forward to the games with the original uniforms. Aside from the
original Charger uniforms, Pats were the best. Anyone remember the god awful ugly Bronco's with the striped socks??
Hey Ghost, I grew up with these ugly uniforms, but I'm sure they couldn't surpass your attitude and ego for pure ugly. Moron.
Does anyone know why they would choose Fred Taylor to represent the Patriots? Wouldn't it make more sense to select someone who has been with the team for a while?
I know the new uniforms were for the kids and while they have grown on me somewhat they were never a good replacement for the old red, white, and blue. I'm glad to see the throwbacks brought back especially since the "silver" shirts just looked like dirty white shirts, what were they thinking?
Oh noes! An anon on tha interwebz insulted me!
I'm surpirsed that the bandwagon survived 2008--glad to see you hopped back on Richter. Feel free to whine about the team some more Sally.
