Attendance report

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff May 20, 2009 01:26 PM

Forty-eight players currently on the Patriots' roster were spotted on the practice field outside Gillette Stadium for today's OTA (organized team activities) that wrapped up a three-day session here.

Highlighting the list of attendees were newly acquired tight ends Chris Baker and Alex Smith, along with running back Fred Taylor. But most of the Patriots' veterans -- including quarterback Tom Brady -- were not on the field and are not expected until the full-squad OTA next week.

Here's a sortable list of players who Globe reporters spotted on the field:

  1. Jim, I agree with those names you listed. Also a little surprised that Wilhite wasn't there, or Richardson and Ventrone. I understand that they've been in the system for at least a year each (with Richardson and Ventrone obviously with more than that), but still. If you're a bubble player who is either going to need to compete for playing time, or need to compete just to make the TEAMm you'd think that you'd want to be out there.

Also, Mike, in terms of the rookies, any info on which guys weren't available because of the NFL academic rule? (about not being able to report until post-graduation or whatever it is)

  1. so Taylor is in attendance but Maroney isn't. great start to "your" season Maroney. and yes, i get it that these are not mandatory but don't you want to set the tone early Maroney?

  1. You all forget that this weeks OTA is for rookies and first and second year players. This OTA is to help these players get up to speed with the players that have played in the system for many years. So Frankie, the reason why Brady isnt there at OTA's is because he doesnt need to be there, but he is still at the facility rehabbing and working out then he goes home and gets an aerobic workout with Giselle!! I do agree about Springs, Galloway, and Lewis. The only reason why im not saying Bodden is because he played for Cleveland when Crennel coached and Crennel used the same defensive system as the Patriots so Bodden wont be a problem. They all have to report next week!

  1. Any looks at what the Pats are going to do at FB? Are they lining up a TE in the backfield?

  1. I wonder why David Thomas and Ryan O'Callaghan are there. At this point in their careers, they should know the system.

There are plenty of new faces at those positions. Maybe this is their last chance before they get cut early in camp.

You could probably say the same thing about Eric Alexander except the Patriots are thin at OLB and ILB and he has a good shot to make the team.
