Brady: "I'm feeling great"

Posted by Christopher L. Gasper, Globe Staff May 20, 2009 07:43 PM

As expected, quarterback Tom Brady was not in attendance at today's organized team activity session. Unexpectedly, Brady sat down and talked to the Patriots in-house web show, "Patriots Today," telling the show that he's feeling great in one of two sound-bites the show aired today on Patriots.com.

"I'm feeling great and just excited to be out there on the field, training with my teammates," Brady said. "It's always fun being back in this competitive environment and working with these guys to try to make 2009 our best season. It's been fun to be back. I think everyone is excited to get back on the field and see what we're capable of."

Brady was then asked if he was itching to get back out on the field.

"I think everybody is at this point," he said. "It was a tough year for us being 11-5 and not having the opportunity to advance into the playoffs and make a run there. I think it's been a long off-season for everybody. I can sense the excitement with the team and we've got some great veteran leadership and a lot of youth and energy with our rookies that hopefully we can build into something special."

That was it from Brady on the show.

Brady, who has been throwing since January, did not participate in any of the three days of the OTA, which ended yesterday. Patriots coach Bill Belichick told the Globe last month and repeated at his pre-draft press conference that Brady was working "in the off-season program without any limitations."

Brady is expected to be present and participate at the team's next OTA, which runs from next Tuesday, May 26 through Friday, May 29. Media is allowed to attend the session on Thursday, May 28.

  1. Hey Mike & Chris,
How about a piece on Brady's conditioning / workout / practice routine? I think if a lot of us actually got to see Tom sweating in the workout room and on the field, that would quiet a lot of the criticism that he's turned into a beach-lounging diva who has lost the heart to play.

    Just a thought...

  1. I think everyone will be silenced once Tom throws 3 touchdown passes in the first game against Buffalo. Personally, I think fan's expectations have gotten a little out of control. Do we really expect these guys to not have a life? So Tom got married in the off season... Congratulations. So he likes to spend his spare time at the beach, don't we all...

I mean, I understand it's entertainment and we forget these guys are actual people, but give me a break.

Brady is one of the fiercest competitors there is, and he will do what it takes to win. If you don't believe me, go back and watch the Pats last offensive drive in the 07' Super Bowl. Too bad our defense had to choke...

  1. Well said, HH. Boston fans are ravenous and true to their teams (mostly - see 2008 boo's at HOME), but they really are frustrating sometimes. Just shut up and enjoy. Being a transplant makes you realize this a bit more clearly, I think.

  1. I agree with HH - I don't need a spin piece to feel good about Brady being ready in September. The guy got a life last year, and anyone who thinks he shouldn't have needs to get one of their own.

  1. man, it's been so long. it will be pleasantly strange seeing #12 out there again.

Just make sure we have a fullback/running back who can handle the blitz up the middle!

  1. Give the guy some air! It is the off season and he is probably doing more than most vets of his stature probably would do even without the injury. The proof in the pudding will occur in September, can't wait!!

  1. Dan,
R.I.F. Go back to school and learn how to compose a sentence you retard..."aren't like in the past"..."that you can doing make it period"....what the f**k does that mean?

  1. Yo, Dan, have you considered using a translator?
More than articles questioning whether Tom should be spending time with his wife, I'd rather hear about the Patriots' efforts to get an NFL rule change which would do away with deifying an 8-8 Division winner over an 11-5 second place team. Maybe let a Division winner get a tie-breaker reward, but not making playoffs over a team with 3 more wins! Hey, I am NO Colts fan, but the Chargers should not have had home-field over the second-best NFL QB. Go Pats!

    the league.

  1. Type your comment here...Does Matt Gutierrez still have a shot at staying with the Pats? Otherwise, I'd sure like to see him go somewhere where he could get a sniff of the ball.

  1. Dan is a representative of the pat fans who believe Tom Brady has gone soft.

  1. am a Redskins fan, but I am from Charlestown, and after the quarterback of the future gets our team to around 8-8, I go back to the Pats.
You have the quarterback of the now.
If I were writing swear words, I would not mock someone else's ignorance.

  1. brady is nuts to want to keep on playing, he has everything a guy his age could want. he should get on with his real life. just like jim brown or barry sanders. besides it is tough to dance brasiliano with bad knees.

  1. There's still a bit of unfinished business left. It's not going to be easy and that's what makes it fun. Can't wait for summer to be over.
