2010 DRAFT PICK RECAP: The Patriots traded an undisclosed 2010 draft pick to the Buccaneers for tight end Alex Smith, and with that move in mind, here is a look at what picks the Patriots own in next year's draft:

  • First round (assigned)
  • Second round (assigned)
  • Second round (from Jaguars)
  • Second round (from Titans)
  • Third round (assigned)
  • Fourth round (assigned)
  • Fifth round (assigned)
  • Sixth round (assigned)
  • Seventh round (assigned)
  • Seventh round (from Eagles in Greg Lewis trade)

BUCCANEERS PERSPECTIVE ON TRADE: The Tampa Tribune notes that the Buccaneers are looking to re-acquire draft picks they traded away for Kellen Winslow and to move up to select quarterback Josh Freeman. ... The St. Petersburg Times notes that "the Bucs attempted to trade Smith before the last weekend's draft but apparently had to settle for what's believed to be a second-day pick in 2010."

PATRIOTS ALL-ACCESS TONIGHT: Patriots All Access is scheduled to air tonight at 7 p.m. ET on WBZ TV, and part of the show features an inside look at the Patriots' draft room. The footage includes conversations Bill Belichick and other Patriots executives had amongst themselves and while negotiating trades with other teams.

    1. i cant wait to see vollmer...i know he is raw...but with his size and quickness if they hit on this one he could be huge for years to come!

    1. Sebastian Vollmer was a tight end before becoming an OT is there any chance that the Pats will use him as a TE?

    1. Mike,

please let us know if Darius Butler or any rookie ofr that matter is used as a kick-off return man. I know the first choice would be Tate, but I don't think he has physically recovered from his ACL.

      Thanks

    1. Hey Mike,

Can you keep your eye on Chung? I'm interested to hear how he compares physically to the other safeties on the roster. As a guy being billed to be a physical presence I'd like to know how he stacks up and if he at all looks "smallish" out there. Also, if there are any indications of his coverage ability please pass along. Looking for any sense of wether he looks fluid or is a bit stiff when moving around

      Thanks

    1. Mike,
I'd like to hear your take on the health of Pats LB crew and who seems to be stepping up to fill Vrables role as both leader and everday player.
I also want to be the first to start the rumor that Willie M may be coming back for a swan song.
Thanks and keep up the great work

    1. Great job Mike. I can never get enough foootball news. Can you let us know who looks good out there in practice. I mean who looks like a stud athlete? When you've been around athletes enough its usually easy to tell...who has good hands and feet, good speed, body in proportion etc etc...

    1. Regarding Vollmer, from the film he looks monsterous and could put on a lot of pounds easily. What does he look like out there physically and how's his quickness?

    1. Good Morning Mike -

I understand you can't take much from this type of session, I would think looking for indicators of the health of Tate would be interesting - though your assessment of the roster and his likely stay on the PUP makes that a non factor.

How about leadership or direction among the rookies, if anyone one rook seems to understand the coaching quicker then another, offer assistance or guidance, etc.

Part of me thinks Chung and Bulter could form a tandem similar to Law and Milloy in the secondary - obviously it's too early to speculate in terms of performance but I'd be interested to observe how they and all the rookies interact with each other.

    1. Rock on Mike. We envy you. Please give us a report on Bill's general attitude in comparison to past Pats camps. Likewise, please fill us in on any new coaches or bigger roles by other coaches if that becomes apparent. I'm looking for signs that Bill and the staff have re-calibrated their intensity to a new high... not only because our expectations are so high for this squad, but also due to the strangely long break they got from missing the playoffs, and even more due to recent "weak" rookie classes. Cheers!

    1. Mike - great idea! I want to hear about the general speed of the defensive picks, especially McKenzie, Butler and Chung. It seems that the Pats passed on a number LB's because they didn't think they were fast enough so I'm interested to hear how fast McKenzie is. I'm expecting Butler to be very quick but I'm also interested to hear how well Chung moves.

    1. Does anyone know if Patriots All Access is repeated/broadcast anywhere online? Cox in RI doesn't carry it as far as I can tell.
