Patriots hosted Paris Lenon

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff May 26, 2009 06:25 PM

The Patriots hosted free agent linebacker Paris Lenon at Gillette Stadium last week, according to an NFL source.

Lenon (6-2, 235), an eight-year veteran who has played with the Packers (2002-2005) and Lions (2006-2008) would project to inside linebacker in the Patriots' 3-4 scheme.

The Patriots also hosted former Rams linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa today at Gillette Stadium, an NFL source confirmed.

Both Lenon and Tinoisamoa would address the depth at inside linebacker after third-rounder Tyrone McKenzie tore his ACL in rookie minicamp.

  1. I think that's freaking GREAT, thank you very much! I hope we sign them BOTH, because we NEED them both!

Folks, we have ONE solid starting ILB. I love Ice Cold Bruschi, but, like Vrabel, he is useful only as a FOURTH ILB, and even THAT is questionable, at this point.

I love Guyton, but it's anyone's guess if he's ready to start at this point. And even if he is, do we REALLY want to grind him and Mayo into the dust? Forget dramatically shortening their careers: If we don't get them some guys to rotate with, we are BEGGING for another year of watching our LB's drop like FLIES.

Hey, I'm the first guy to say that Lenon and Leaning House are, by far, THE most unremarkable ILB's in the LEAGUE!

But they can PLAY. Rotate one of them in, every few plays, and, without TOO dramatic a drop in effectiveness, you can keep Mayo + Guyton fresh, and allow them to play at an high level!

BOTH of these guys have shown the Scrapper's Mentality that has forged this Dynasty. I must admit some ignorance, and ask for y'all's help, gents, if you would be so kind: How many ILB's do we usually keep in the Final 53?

By the way: Nice work, Mike, in sniffing Lenon and the rest of that list out, a couple weeks ago!

  1. Why is everyone ignoring that we have Banta-Cain? When he was with us he had good numbers.

  1. This guy had 121 tackles playing for the LIONS last season. Those are some good numbers. Give him a chance, why not????

  1. "Why is everyone ignoring that we have Banta-Cain?"

Could it be that he's an OUTSide LineBacker, and the subject is INSide LIneBacker? ;o)

Then again, you won't read ME bringing him up during OLB discussions very much: REAL men don't hyphenate! :oP
