Every Tuesday on Boston.com, questions from Patriots fans are answered as part of a weekly mailbag. This week's mailbag has been posted and includes some of the following topics:
- Concern over the team not adding a pass-rushing outside linebacker.
- Free agent possibilities, from Jason Taylor to Larry Foote.
- Looking back on the team's draft approach and trading out of the first round.
- Impressions from rookie minicamp.

Hey mike, love your blog!!! As a resident of New York(but from ma for 2/3 of my life) I love to hear jets fans complain about the jets. It always like its the end of the world. But now it is my turn to complain about the pats. THe Pats play a defensive system but wouldn't it be good to have drafted rey mauluga to be the hammer(the one that is out of control aka junior seau in his prime) in the pats system where mayo could have been the inside linebacker who acts like the system ilb. I don't see a problem with a person in a system who can act wild or instinctively?
Mike, too many questions on subjects you've covered ad naseum.

thanks again Mike for taking the risk of sharing your opinions each week
THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORDS OF WISDOM. WHO DO YOU LIKE IN WEEK 1? I HAVE PATRIOTS -7.
Pats -7? I'd take the Pats in a heartbeat. Buffalo won't have Lynch. Coupled with a revamped NE secondary and a weaker O-Line after the Peters trade, and you have the Pats able to at least slow down, if not shut down, the Bills O, and if you think the Pats O is going to have problems moving the ball....well, I disagree.
Andy, do you remember 2002? The fake end around/dive play?
THAT is whats wrong with having defenders in the pats system not playing under control.
The Pats draft was great in light of the available talent and their approach. There will be a few guys competing for playing time, a few guys who win up in IR (Redshirt) and a few guys who will go on the practice squad that can be developed. They got a good prospect af SS and CB and they also got a wide body for the D-Line which are very hard to come by in the Pats' scheme. O-Line is a tough position to play in a complex offensive scheme and there's no harm in having 2 guys that they can have come in and learn.
In two-three years when this is a young team with a lot of guys schoold in the Pats' system what will people say then.
BTW, how is Gholston working out for the Jets at OLB?
HA HA HA HA
You tell 'em Rob. I'm still amazed at those who don't understand BB's approach.
Fine if you don't agree or think he may have made a mistake - no one's right 100% of the time, but hasn't MikeR's chronicling and analysis been sufficient to make the distinction of why certain guys are cut-out to be Patriots and others aren't?
Andy, you can't have it both ways. Ray Maulauga is not a good fit and you just spelled out why. The Pats system is predicated on "doing your job". Especially that the 3-4 by nature requires a higher degree of 2-gap role discipline, compared to the typical 4-3.
Junior Seau - the freak that he is - is one few "instinctive" players with both the smarts and DESIRE to buy into and adapt into the Pats disciplined system. And being disciplined doesn't preclude heavy hitters - witness Rodney Harrison and now hopefully Patric Chung and Tank Williams.
Who is the Mr Davis, Belichick is talking to on the phone in the Patriots all access coverage from the draft room? Is this conversation in preparation for pick 26 and did MIA snag Vontae Davis in front of the Patriots at spot 25????
adx --
Belichick was talking to Al Davis, the Nosferatu who owns the Raiders.
Even though I'm concerned about the OLB spot too, I think it's worth pointing out that sack numbers should increase with better play from the secondary this year. People often say that a good pass rush can compensate for weaknesses in the secondary, but the opposite is true too: a good secondary can compensate for weaknesses in the pass rush.
