OTA video: Terrence Nunn

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff May 25, 2009 08:00 AM

All this week we're featuring video from Wednesday's OTA (organized team activity) at Gillette Stadium. Today's video: WR Terrence Nunn.

Projected as an undrafted free agent coming out of the University of Nebraska, wide receiver Terrence Nunn wasn't particularly surprised when his phone didn't ring over the 2008 NFL Draft weekend.

The lack of phone calls in the days, weeks, and months that followed were far more concerning.

According to Nunn, not a single team called to even inquire about a tryout following his senior campaign at Nebraska, where he finished second on both the Huskers' list of career receptions (136 catches) and career receiving yardage (1,762 yards).

"Nobody" said a polite and personable Nunn following Wednesday's workout at Gillette Stadium. "[My agent] said he talked to a couple teams, but no one called me."

So Nunn returned to Texas and took a job working at a local gym in his hometown of Houston. Despite an abundance of rollover minutes from those lack of calls from NFL teams, he never deemed his football career over.

"I knew it if I kept working, someone would give me a chance," said Nunn.

That chance came earlier this month when Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio phoned to bring Nunn to Foxborough on a tryout. He signed with New England on May 11 and was at Gillette Stadium this past week for a three-day voluntary OTA.

Nunn spent time at receiver working with fellow roster longshots like Julian Edelman and Robert Ortiz. Nunn also worked as a gunner on kickoff coverage, but will be pushed by other receivers / special teamers like Matthew Slater and Sam Aiken (both of whom also attended this week's OTA and logged quality time in New England a year ago).

Regardless, the phone finally rang and Nunn hopes his football career lives on past the summer.

“It’s a blessing because I’m never going to forget I could still be back home working at that same gym,” said Nunn. “So I do consider it a blessing and appreciate it very, very much.”

  1. I dont get how someone as talented as he seems falls thru the cracks. Hopefully, we stumbled upon a diamond in the rough.
