Paris Lenon deal
A look at the contract signed by linebacker Paris Lenon with the Patriots:
It is a one-year pact with a base salary of $750,000. Lenon receives a $50,000 signing bonus as part of the deal, and there are $200,000 worth of incentives in the package.
Lenon's salary cap charge is $800,000.

and add in the playoff $$.
Wow.
Not bad for a guy who was #12 in total tackles last year.
Since the Pats currently have at least 80 players at camp and they have to cut it down to around 55 by season's start, there is a chance new marginal players like Lenon get cut. How much of his new contract does he keep if he's cut before the season starts?
Wait, they gave him $750K and not the $745k vet min (7-9 seasons)? Is that extra $5k that important to him? That would have reduced his cap charge from the full $750 down to $460k. Also, they could still give him the $50K sb and 200k in incentives while still qualifying for the vet min.....unless I'm horribly mistaken in all this...but I'm pretty sure I'm not.
short money--great move--this kid just wants a fresh start and a chance to go from worst to first.
Perfect low-risk, potential high-reward type of deal. Lenon looks like a prototypical Pats veteran signing-- a solid, not outstanding guy who will add depth and stability to an already stocked roster. Nice move.
I love Paris in the springtime... sorry, I had to say that. Honestly, this is a great signing because it confirms for me that BB is keeping everything level and addressing problems with cold rationality, rather than wild reactionism. All is well in Patriots nation.
Hey...Rob in central mass, I bet they know something you don't about the math
