Analyst high on Chung
Rob Rang, a senior analyst for NFLDraftScout.com who annually rates draftable prospects, has put together a list of offensive and defensive players he feels could be diamonds in the rough. Rang's picks, which are published on CBSSports.com, are all from the second round or lower.
One Patriot made the list -- safety Patrick Chung (34th overall).
Rang said he almost considered not including Chung on the list, because he was selected just two picks into the second round, which is hardly a diamond in the rough.
But in deciding to leave Chung on the list, Rang writes: "There isn't a single player on this list (or the offensive list, for that matter) that I have more confidence in developing into a true standout than Chung. I tagged him as the most reliable open-field tackler in the 2009 draft ..."

I cant wait to see this man in pads and start hitting... this kid is going to be beastly...
Two Words of Caution:
Tony Mandarich
Lets see it on the field before we put this kid in Canton
Interesting that Darius Butler wasn't also on the list. I thought he was a steal at 41st.
Long live NFLDraftScout.com. CBSsports.com absolutely demolished that great site.
Count me as one who's also high on Chung. And if I get caught it's only a misdemeanor.
Now if we could only get other network analysts high on actual insight & intelligence it would be great news...
Hello pat fans, I am a Steelers fan but I have to say Patrick Chung is a great pick along with Butler. I pick a favorite player to watch every year in college and last season it was Chung. He can both play Safety positions and cornerback. I think the lost of Harrison is a big one but Chung will help deminish that. I also think that on Paper that ur cornerbacks is the best Pats had in a long time...
37 Days and counting down...
Yea Man! 37 days indeed! We need to get the pads these guys and see who the real players are. I'm excited like the rest of you guys. Lets hope we suffer no set backs or injuries from now to the start of the season.
tunaisgod......a couple problems with your mandarich comparison....
1) chung didn't base his entire career on steroids and then flame out after he stopped taking them
2) chung wasn't the 2nd player chosen overall so the "bust" tag doesn't apply
bruce m.... some people had butler going in the first round so he wouldn't be considered a "diamond in the rough"
I attended the University of Oregon and took some classes with Patrick. I watched every Duck football game. I have to say, being from Mass and a Patriots fan, I could not be happier with this pick! He is a stand up guy who plays bigger and wiser than his size or age would lead you to believe. He graduated from high school early, so you know he is smart. Yes, the man can tackle! He has better than average ball skills and should help the other DBs. A perfect Patriot indeed!
RB, thanks for chipping in! With the exception of the occasional Hater, I've always liked Steeler fans, and I've always loved the Steelers! Celebrating our own success does not include begrudging y'all yours! We're all pretty fired up, around here, as I'm sure you are, out there! Thanks for the kind words about our boy: We can't WAIT to get rolling!!!
This is all well and good, but more importantly what does Matt Millen, shrewd talent evaluator and brilliant architect of the 0-16 Lions, think of Chung? (Sorry MIke!)
fanatical yankee, thanks..I Can't wait until football season...I love the off season just as much or even more...I believe if the Pats get better at pass rush this yr, they will tough to beat...The Steelers lost Mcfadden (cb) and Foote (lb) on our great defense but we should be top 3 again....I am a huge Chung fan but in a 3-4 defense, its hard to get on the field , as a rookie,in the first year, except Mayo...
BoSoxJim-
Don't bother. He goes into every post by Reiss and says something stupid about not anointing the person "yet". Including Tom Brady. Don't even qualify him with a response.
