Around the Web

A look at some Patriots-related links from around the Web:

  • The Brady-Manning debate is back, and CBSSports.com's Pete Prisco has both players atop his ranking of top 50 NFL players. Which player is No. 1?

  • Wes Welker (Patriots), Matt Cassel (Chiefs) and Larry Izzo (Jets) used to be teammates in New England, and they teamed up once again on Saturday in Oklahoma City. The Associated Press has the details.

  • Albert Breer of the Sporting News catches up with running back Fred Taylor, who talks about family and football.

  • Linebackers Vince Redd and Eric Alexander talk with Travis Lazarczyk of the Kennebec Journal while helping lead the Central Maine Youth Football Clinic. Former Patriot Troy Brown is also making the camp rounds, and the Zanesville Times Recorder has the details.

    1. I am a 25 year Patriot fan and a #1 Tom Brady fan (I own the jersey). But I would say P. Manning is the better pure quarterback. Brady has great smarts and a calm appraoch when needed. But Peyton has all the QB skills down long ans short passes, controllong of the offence etc. Many people say Brady never had the weapons until 2007, but he did have one of the best Defences in the league helping him win championships. I know my fellow Pats fans can't stand Manning, but you have to give him his do. With the exception of super bowls Manning wins every category (2007 season aside).
p.s. I do hate the Colts, Polian, Dungy and even Peyton. 2009 is Pats time.

    1. Brady 2nd?????? Are you kidding me. I am not a Patriots fan and this is just bull. Brady is by far the best QB.....Manning is a good regular season QB but just the opposite in playoffs...Here are some stats for you fans Payton Manning stats....
      7wins 8losses
      56 completion percentage
      22 tds 18 ints
      8 losses....colts score 13 points a game.....
2006 superbowl yr...3tds 7ints in playoffs......defense won it for him......

    1. I have to add to this.....Brady 2nd is a joke....He is by far #1 BUT...I am more schocked by seeing TROY POLAMALU at #35....Troy Polamalu is the best all around safety in the league..I will give Ed 'Reed the best free safety but he is not better then Polamalu...
Polamalu is better tackler, better in blitz, better against run..Reed is better against pass but if anyone watches football, Reed plays 20 to 30 yrds down the field, where 3-4 free safeties normally play...Polamalu is only safety teams have to game plan for, he is everywhere and can cover as well. Reed is always in the same place (and is very good at it)
If I were to start a team and I could chose a defensive player.....TROY POLAMALU..

    1. The Brady-Manning "debate" exists only in the minds of the delusional and ignorant. Speaking of delusional and ignorant, Pete Prisco's player rankings, everybody! Seriously, like we have to guess who he has at the top. If Prisco was any more obsessed with Manning, Peyton would have a restraining order against him.

Brady's better, always has been, always will be.

    1. If Manning quarterbacks the Pats since 2000 he wins 4 superbowls. Not a doubt in my mind.

    1. And you would be 100% wrong. God, so many morons.

    1. Manning is one of the best pure throwers in the history of the league. However, he has also had some fantastic talent, coaching and money directed toward building a powerful offense around him. As a result he is rewriting the record books in the rugular season. However, he has not come through in the clutch consistently.
Brady has not consistently put up the numbers, but he has never had the same level of support on offense. Nevertheless, all he does is win including three super bowls. The one time Brady had a similar supporting cast he lead his team to with 2 minutes of a perfect season. There is no doubt the we are lucky to be witnessing two of the greatest QBs in the history of the Game, Brady QBs the colts they win 4 super bowls.

    1. Good point Dave. However, the last time these to met in a meaninful game, Brady could not complete a pass to clinch it and Manning did what he needed to do to drive his team to victory. That is still my most painful loss in Pats history. Close call either way.

    1. dkrejci, your intelligence is proven in posts #10 and 11. As you probably know Peyton is horrible in the clutch - just check out how far his passer rating falls in the playoffs compared to Tom's.

Also ever hear Tom complain about "protection problems," whine about the rules, how horrible those mean db's were, point more fingers than an unfaithful politician? How many Super Bowls does Peyton win with Branch as his top receiver? Fact is, if Belichick didn't have to go to his 4th and 5th string db's the Peyton would never have sniffed the Super Bowl.

You Peyton fans are pathetic - and that goes for you canpatsfan - you don't know football or you've been following it for maybe 2 years.

    1. Some of you guys dont make any sense. Manning chokes in Playoffs. He has had the same offensive coordinator and same offensive line coach since he got drafted. This yr, they hired new coordinators. Manning has had the same wr's for at least 7 yrs in a free agency period. All of the skill positions for the Colts, are all first round picks. Reggie Wayne, Marvin Harrison(not this yr), Dallas Clark, Joseph Addai and they also had Edegrin James. If you read my first comments, you can read Manning's record in playoffs. Oh, bye the way, he plays indoors. So, He would not have any Superbowls if he was QB in NE. Brady would have at least 2 in Indy. Once again, I am a Steelers fan and I see it.....

    1. NO WAY Drew Brees is top 10 player....
      The Best 3 QB's
      1. Brady
      2. Manning
      3. Roethlisberger
Roethlisberger is the 2nd best Clutch QB...Drew Brees is not even top 5 best QB's...

Posted by RB June 29, 09 10:10 AM
    1. I would put Roethlisberger ahead of Manning. He can perform in the clutch. Manning is a great regular season qb.

    1. No way Manning would have already won 4 SB's if he were in NE. Given his playoff resume, he probably would've thrown 4 picks in the Oakland snow bowl derailing the dynasty before it even started. I will say that he was clutch in the playoffs once, and that it was unfortunately agains the Pats. But that was inside the Indy dome. He is not a good playoff QB in inclement weather and that's where about half of NE's playoff games are played. Although knowing BB he probably would've converted Ty Law to WR creating the most prolific QB-WR combination in playoff history. So what do I know.
