Faulk not slowing down

BOLTON – No Patriots running back has played more over the last two seasons than Kevin Faulk, as he participated in 43 percent of the offensive snaps in 2008, and 44 percent in 2007.

Some might view Faulk as a third-down back, but in the Patriots’ pass-based offense, he’s a No. 1 option at running back.

Faulk, who turned 33 on June 5, is one of those players who seems to get better with age. The last two seasons have been two of his best.

With this in mind, I asked him Monday how much longer he plans to play.

“My body is telling me to keep going, but you never know,” he responded. “Something could happen, but hopefully it doesn’t. I’m just taking it year to year.”

Faulk enters his 11th NFL season, all spent with the Patriots. He was a second-round draft choice out of Louisiana State in 1999.

  1. Kevin Faulk is the man! He doesn't get much respect around the league or even in New England with so many more high profile stars, but is clearly an important piece of the team. We don't seem to hear much from Faulk

  1. Faulk is the Go-To Guy. When we need an extra yard--he always gets it done. I met him at Vince Wilfork's Fund Raiser and he appears to be quiet--but very polite!

  1. That's nice Mike, but it would be more interesting if you compared Faulk to all the third down backs drafted in the second round in 1999 so we could get a better picture of whether Faulk is really any good, or if this is just another release from the Patriots media-spin machine.

  1. Faulk is a class act.

  1. That's a good idea, PatsFan4Eva. At the same time, to suggest that Faulk is no good -- and that this might be part of a spin -- made me laugh. All it takes is one look on the field to see Faulk's value to the club. I don't know how anyone could dispute that over the last two years. No spin required there.

  1. haha PatsFan4Eva, did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed.
Faulk has been the best back on this team since Dillion's first year, he has only gotten better too. I would argue that last year was his best, what would Cassel have done without him? I just hope he has at least one really good season.
Remember he had fumble problems earlier in his career, he seems to have figured that out the last few years. As Pedey says, he is the Man.

  1. PatsFan4fake, if you had eyes and a brain you could see for yourself that Faulk has easily gotten better as time has went by. In Faulk's first 5 seasons, he had a total of 10 fumbles(1999-2003). From 2003 to present he has had only 1 fumble since then. As well as becoming the Pass blocking RB they have on the team, who also when called upon can contribute to special teams as well. So PatsFan4fake, please go back to the NYdaily or something.

  1. Mike, nice respectful response to an idots comment about Faulk being a part of a spin.....I honestly believe that anyone that could say something like that about Faulk just doesn't follow the Patriots or football for that matter.....yes I'm a homer but Faulk is probably, no scratch that, the best 3erd down back in the entire league & is a major cogg in what makes the Patriots offense so multi-dimensional!!! I look at Faulk & think of Troy brown or John Hanna or Stanley Morgan.....just a awesome classic stand up teamate!!!!!!! I hope Faulk plays for a long time because players as passionate & talented as he is are fun to watch year after year!!!!

  1. PatsFan4fake, Your a joke. Not only is Kevin Faulk a good player for the system we run. Not only is he the team best overall back he also could play special teams whenn called upon. He's easily the best blocking back we have(no offense Sammy Morris) and in his first 4 yrs with the team he put the ball on the ground 10x from '99 to '03. Since then he has only fumbled once. He's also Brady's favorite bailout if you watch any of games...I mean if you could get it off the Lifetime channel maybe

  1. Much love and respect to Faulk! The main reason I asked about him for the observations in Mini-camp segment was because he has been such a key piece of the offense for so long, and I cannot imagine someone else being able to fill the same role.

  1. nice post to stir the pot with, Nathan - I mean, after all...there's no way anybody could be as ignorant as that writing would make one appear - is there?

  1. Wrong Faulk, Nathan. KEITH FaulkE pitched for the RED SOX. Get some learning, friend.

I wouldn't compare him to John Hannah (greatest guard of all time) or Stanley Morgan (who has more yards than many Hall of Fame receivers) because he's Kevin, not Marshal Faulk. BUT I like Faulk - I think Belichick would say he does his job very well.

  1. Oh, I so remember the fumble problems he used to have. It took me a few years to get over that. Everytime he would get the ball I would hold my breath. But, the man has come a long way and I can rest easy when Faulk has the ball. I wonder what he did to fix the fumble problems he had?

  1. Hey Mike, in the interview, K-Faulk refers to someone on team as 'Tiny'. Any idea who he was referring to?
