Light behind the mic

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff June 15, 2009 08:30 AM

While players figure to enjoy some down time over the next 5-6 weeks before training camp starts, left tackle Matt Light has his calendar marked for some post-career planning.

Light is one of 24 players (past/present) scheduled to take part in NFL Broadcast Boot Camp at NFL Films in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey (June 22-25)

This is one of the NFL's more impressive player initiatives, as the league brings professional broadcasters/executives in as teachers, such as ESPN's Ron Jaworski, CBS's James Brown and NBC's Fred Gaudelli. It often times leads to job opportunities for the players.

In addition to Light, former Patriots tight end Kyle Brady and former Patriots offensive lineman Damien Woody are among those on this year's roster.

  1. Argh... I hate June! No real football news for the next month and a half.
    WELCOME TO THE DEAD-ZONE...

Time to start busting out those fluff-pieces on "Top 10 Patriots Pets," "Ty Warren's Annual Charity Thumb-Wresting Competition," and the "Did you Know?" piece on how Sammy Morris used to collect bottlecaps when he was a kid.

I feel for ya, Mike; it's tough to be an NFL media guy this time of year...

  1. No argument from me, Reason. I think it's a good time to re-charge some batteries, but the depth of football news should be light for the next 5-6 weeks. We'll try to spark it up from time to time here.

  1. Mike,

Could you compare and contrast what the effectiveness of any left tackles the season after attending NFL Broadcasting Boot Camp?
