Tickets on sale Thursday

Posted by Chad Finn, Globe Staff June 3, 2009 05:54 PM

Patriots fans who wish to purchase tickets to individual games for the upcoming season will have the opportunity on Thursday at 10 a.m.

The Patriots annually leave a limited number of tickets in reserve for Patriots fans who wish to attend just a couple of games each season. Those tickets will be released for sale through Ticketmaster. Visa is the only form of payment accepted.

Tickets will not be sold at the Gillette Stadium ticket office. Orders can be completed online at www.ticketmaster.com or by phone by calling 800-745-3000.

  1. How long do those tickets normally last on the Internet?

  1. I tried to get tickets 2 or 3 years ago right as they went on sale... I tried for what I thought was the least desirable game of the year (a crap team like Detroit or Cincy) and the game was sold out from the time when they first went on sale until the 15-20 seconds it took me to enter the stupid code. I tried and tried and the system had no sets of 2 tickets anywhere.

So, to make it short, getting Pats tickets used to be near impossible. In this economy, you might get luckier. I would try, but my Debit card is a Mastercard.

  1. 10 minutes...

  1. Typically the only tickets that remian after the first minute or so are separate individual seats. In other words, you can buy a pair of tickets but you will not be sitting together or possibly even in the same section.

As Danny said, in this economy all bets are off. Even if you strike out in getting them direct, I suspect that more season ticket holders than ever will be going to one or two games and selling off the rest, especially the Monday & Sunday night games that the networks love but the fans can often do without.

  1. I tried within one minute of 10am to get 4 tickets to several games. No deal. Within three minutes I tried to get pairs of ticket. No deal. This was to three separate games.

I have written computer programs which interact directly with websites for work. My guess is that the vast majority of tickets are bought by automated purchasing programs which interact with websites such as ticketmaster. Any claims they make about preventing this are a lot of hoooey. With my own work network I could have 20 unique computers logging in at once. Too bad I only want 1 game!

  1. I managed to snag 2 tickets to the Titans game on Oct 18th. 2 tickets together as well! This will be my third trip to see the Pats live in Foxboro. Always a good time!

I find the best way to get tickets is to pick a game that isn't Jets, Dolphins or Bills. They seem to sell out fast. I live near Toronto so I can alos catch the Pats at the Bills if I don't get tickets in Foxboro.

  1. i participated in the ticket madness this year and it was very doable...Originally I tried to get a pair of 3rd level patriots side seats to the dolphins game, but didn't work out. Then I tried the jets at about 10:05 and got two great ones. Don't know if this is normal time limits.

  1. I've just acquired 1 ticket to the Jets @ Patriots game!
Well, this will be my first trip to Foxboro. Can anyone tell me what's the cheapest and safest way to get to the game if I go from UMass Amherst or Boston?
I'm very excited and there are still 5 months to the game!

  1. If you go from Boston, you take the train right from south station to the game. I don't remember how much, but it was pretty cheap.

  1. Ticketmaster sucks. The good old days when you walked up to a ticket window, spoke to a human being, looked to see where the seats were on a chart, put your cash down and went home with tickets are gone. To tell the truth, the world of today sucks.
