Why Pats dominate Bills
The Patriots open the 2009 season by hosting the Bills on "Monday Night Football" and one statistic that is sure to be heard between now and then is this: The Patriots have beaten the Bills 11 straight times.
Seth Wickersham of "ESPN The Magazine" highlights three NFL lopsided matchups and includes Patriots-Bills in his work.
Writes Wickersham:
"Nobody adjusts like New England, and the Patriots have beaten the Bills 11 times by a combined score of 321-96 with a variety of schemes and players. ..."
Wickersham talks to former Patriots running back Heath Evans, who notes that New England always had a different plan when facing the Bills.
Looking ahead, the big question I have this year is how the presence of Terrell Owens changes the dynamic of the matchup. The Bills' offense should be more difficult to defend.
When looking at the opening week of the season, and pointing out individual matchups that will be most interesting to watch, Shawn Springs vs.Terrell Owens ranks high on the list.

Because they have a much better team and coach!!! Pretty simple. That game during 2007 was so fun to watch. I think they scored on the first 9 or 10 times they touched the ball. Good times.
I'm just curious how much of a dropoff people feel there is between Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch. Obviously, Lynch will be out for the game but Jackson just got a new deal (or signed his tender, or whatever. He's in camp) and he seems like a good player. Still, without Lynch, I think they'll be more one dimensional and not sure if Trent Edwards is capable of exploiting any mismatches they might be able to create.
Pats in a walk.
Let's not get carried away with Shawn Springs. The guy is 34, two years older than Deltha Oneal. And we know how well the "old veteran" experiment went last year. About the same as the previous attempt with Duane Starks. So what makes people think this time a 34 year old who only started 7 games last year will be different. Speaking of old, with Shawn Springs (34), Fred Taylor (33), and Joey Galloway (37), our Pats have become the old Sunshine retirement home for the NFL. Guaranteed these 3 combined will not play a full season.
They also drafted 12 players. Through there recent run of success the Pats have consistently been a team with a mix of veterans and youth. No reason to change that formula.
JJ,
I think the team will fold before the season gets done as well.. Teams done..
This team will be just fine. The secondary, the weakest point of last year, is completely revamped. The safety spot is stronger than it was last year, with Merriweather really coming into his own, Sanders with another year under his belt, and Chung hopefully growing into a meaningful role. The cornerbacks....well hell, they have 4 guys who either should be or could be high-end starters (Springs, Bodden, Wheatley, Butler) and another who performed well...and may not be high end (or may be, who knows?) but should, at the least be a good nickel guy in Wilhite. They addressed ILB depth. They brought in some young guys to compete along the line, got Fred Taylor, receivers are upgraded....almost across the board, this team is better than it was last year. The only area it MIGHT (and I stress might) not be as good as last year is Vrabel's spot...and that could go either way. Lot of potential there.
JJ- You are just now realizing that the patriots like to take the grizzled vet approach? A team that has utilized Troy Brown, junior Seau, Colvin, Corey Dillon, and countless other older patch players with GREAT success deserves a little more faith.
The problem with people like JJ is that they're the same people who would whine if the secondary had all 1st and 2nd year players. The player mix on the Patriots has always been balanced to near perfection (except last year).
It was getting way too old the past few years, but they've added a lot of youth in the 2008 and 2009 drafts thankfully.
Mister Bill a.k.a. Mister Hit and Run will not be hitting and running at the Monday Night game, or for two weeks after that. League suspension. That's easy enough for the Pats to adjust to. Double T.O., and then find a dozen ways to let Trent Edwards worry.
Fred Jackson/Dominic Rhodes are suitable replacements and will run all over the NE defense...and Shawn Springs will not be able to cover TO, and unfortunately for you Pats fans, you can't put double coverage on TO when Lee Evans is lined up on the other side...It will not be 12 straight losses for Buffalo
