Jets' Pace suspended
The NFL announced today it has suspended New York Jets outside linebacker Calvin Pace for the first four games of the season -- including New York's Week 2 home game against the Patriots -- for violating the league's performance-enhancing substance policy.
In a statement released by the team, Pace blamed his suspension on an over-the-counter dietary supplement.
Pace can participate in all preseason games and practices. The 28-year-old Pace was one of the Jets big free-agent acquisitions last season. In his first season with the Jets he finished second on the team with seven sacks and also had 80 tackles. He forced five fumbles and scored his first career touchdown on a 50-yard fumble return in the Jets' 47-3 victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Those cheaters, someone call Arlen Spector.
i think he was on female hormones. he must have been in touch with his inner "Manny".
Pace is a real good player. Similar to Adalius Thomas in skillset. This makes Matt Light's job a lot easier, and should open things up for Welker because they'll probably have to rely on Gholston to fill the void. Or they'll use more nickel packages to compensate, which could make them more vulnerable against the run.
Let's see if this keeps Jets fans from trashing Rodney Harrison for his HGH use. I'm betting no.
Classy statement from Pace, though. Very much like what Rodney said.
cheater
Sanctimonious Cheaters!
How can a million dollar athlete not know what he is putting into his body?First Marshawn Lynch, now Calvin Pace, got to love how our first few games of the season are shaping up.
Calvin Pace, be a man and own up,you CHEATED and got caught. Rex Ryan get those knee pads ready, you will be kissing those rings!
Funny that it is always an "over the counter supplement". Maybe they need to let the NFL distribute their supplements, since they have so much trouble discerning the labels and stuff???
Right, you only have your stupid self to blame, I believe you went to the "pharmacy" and bought an "over the counter" illegal drug, the bottle of whatever you were taking did not jump into your pocket, wait for you to sleep and get into your body. Seriously, don't insult our intelligence with this outdated excuse.
I hate the Jets, natch, but I'm getting sick to death of stories like the above. Athletes like Pace shouldn't have to jump through hoops and dutifully apologize for using over-the-counter supplements that anybody who walks into a GNC can use.
Even in cases where it's been proven that the offending ingredient wasn't listed on the label, Goodell forces them into the position of saying "But it's my responsibility what I put into my body" yada yada yada. It's a consumer''s responsibility -- to be clairvoyant? More to the point, if it's sold over the counter, it sure as hell isn't an anabolic steroid.. But more and more athletes are being suspended for ingesting substances that aren't performance -enhancing at all, simply because it's claimed that they're masking agents. I'm waiting for one of these players to sue both Goodell and the NFL for Big Bucks? I'll be rooting for them.
Blamed it on an over-the-counter mistake.....come on. Don't they all? The only one of these guys who I've seen take responsibility is Rodney.
National Flag Football League here we come. Hope the Pats have a team pharmacist.
What was the banned substance? Obviously not an anabolic steroid, since it was an over-the-counter supplement that anyone could buy at any GNC store. This is really getting out of hand, players being suspended for this nonsense, even in cases where the offending ingredient isn't listed on the label. If a player has NO WAY OF KNOWING, he can hardly bear responsibility, yet Goodell forces them to dutifully include in their apolgies: "I'm responsible for what I put in my body." According to that logic, the people who died when some nut job contaminated those Tylenol bottles in the 80's were "responsible" for their own deaths.
"Maybe they need to let the NFL distribute their supplements, since they have so much trouble discerning the labels and stuff???"
Well that's one of the problems...in some cases the banned substances aren't listed...and the NFL acknowledges such.
What a blessing for the Pats, first two weeks major contributors from division rivals have to sit out. Start strong boys!
The only problem with Pace's story is that it is just Pace's story.
Those of you who think he is an innocent victim are missing the point.... he is using the fact that certain supplements contain prohibitted substances in order to avoid a more serious punishment for intentional violation. This is just a case of maintaining plausible deniability. If you want to believe it great, but that doesn't make it true.
And yeah, a bunch of cheaters that blew the AFC East last year when it was all wrapped up.
Rodney took responsibility???????????????
" I only took HGH to get back on the field quicker".
That's not cheating because I'm a Patriot.
I knew I took these drugs and told no one. When I got caught I owned up to
using HGH. I'm Rodney Harrison!
I'll shoot my mouh off now, but when I was I was using HGH I said nothing.
When I got caught I came clean because I'm a stand up guy
Grow-up, over the counter def: "Literally, this means buying over the prescription counter , or without needing a prescription ." how stronger or potent could it be to suspend a player, it's like taking a decongestant in the Olympics, it’s BS. He did not get it from a guy in a brown bag out of the back of a car, ya think. Calvin Pace is not a cheat so grow-up! It would be a different story if he played for your team!
The OTC stuff isn't banned because it's a PED, it's banned because it can be used as a masking agent. All these guys are juiced to the gills, they just aren't getting caught. The league is making more substances taboo because they mask the real PEDs.
