More on McGinest
While former Patriots linebacker Willie McGinest has made it clear that he would be open to a return to the Patriots and told Albert Breer of Sporting News that he's talked to Tom Brady and Richard Seymour, nothing has changed since April, when McGinest expressed similar sentiments in an NFL.com chat.
A source close to McGinest said today that the veteran linebacker would like to return for a 16th season and maintains a relationship with Patriots coach Bill Belichick, but there have been no formal talks aimed at bringing McGinest back to New England and no offer from the Patriots.
Of course that could change, especially with the Patriots' perceived weakness at outside linebacker. McGinest would like to play next season and with more teams switching to the 3-4 he's likely to draw some interest, at which point he'll have to decide if the system and situation suit him well enough to postpone his burgeoning broadcast career.

C'mon - stop the nonsense. He's got nothing left in the tank, couldn't make the team if he tried (am I the only person who watched the last time he played???) and - duh - would LOVE taking the dough! Look, I know it's the slow time of the season and all but we're not all stupid. Memo to Albert - try writing about something that's actually football newsworthy (or do a Barnicle - your choice).
Willie was awesome but I watched him play the past two years for the browns. He looked too much like Seau and Colvin from last year. A step slower then everyone else.
I love Willie and wouldn't mind having him back as a leader/coach/mentor, but if he plays significant time, then our defense is in trouble.
Thanks but no thanks, if we wanted a veteran OLB we would have kept Vrabel. Heck I would go with Colvin over WMG. Sorry man, you blew it when you decided to bolt to the browns for the money.
Ya this is nonsense, BB is done with WM. This is Bruschis last year also, if he even makes it. BB always makes the decision thats in the best interest of the team.
While everyone's downplaying the idea, think over whether or not you really want to choose between Tully Banta-Cain and Shawn Crable for the weakside edge on 3rd and 1 plays all year.
Oh wait, Tank Williams is back from his injury, that's an even better option!
Expect a lot of 4-3 sets out of NEED which won't work right if they don't bring back McGinest.
He had 56 tackles last year, 43 solo (2nd most since 2004) he can still play and still demands help from a TE or RB to block him, He'd be an asset for short $$ and 20 or so snaps a game
I personally spoke to Wille M. at an ESPN Function a couple of days leading up to the SUPERBOWL in Glendale two seasons ago. I am a Patriot fan and told him that we would be more than happy to have him retire his # as a Patriot!
His eye lit-up and he smiled & shook my hand! So many players on ALL our BOSTON TEAMS have traded for money, more play, or were traded for up-grades. The majority of those players have gone on to vitalize their careers and make a push to higher ground. Though W.M. did not, he still has a place with us and as the best fans in the world we (I) would love to see his # retired with us! Go Willie McGi!!!!!!
He didn't bolt to the Browns for money, hiyo. The Pats never even offered him a contract.
