Opposing perspective

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff July 19, 2009 06:30 AM

The Patriots open the 2009 NFL season at home against the Bills, a team they've beaten 11 straight times.

Thus, when considering the top questions facing the Bills this season, it makes sense that Buffalo Bills.com lead journalist Chris Brown has "Can they topple the Patriots?" high on the charts. The website rates it as the seventh-most important question facing the Bills.

Brown details some of the elements he feels the Bills must have to snap the streak:

  • Pressure on Brady
  • Be able to adjust
  • Big plays
  • Be aggressive

In the end, I'd concur with Brown that the Bills -- personnel-wise -- appear to be in the best position they've been this decade to possibly snap the streak.

    1. Answer: Not with Trent Edwards as their quarterback.

    1. Great analysis - pressure on the QB, adjusting, big plays, and aggression. What's next - saying "score more points than the other team and also give up less" or other gems?

    1. Bills v Pats is the coaching mismatch of the decade. Buffalo has never been able to hire a front office staff or head coach who can think about football on the same level as the elite coaches.

    1. Looks like the lame cliched analysis points:

      1- Stop the run
      2-Control big plays
      3-pressure the QB
4- control the clock/keep the other team's offense off the field

You beat the Pats by containing Brady. Same for just about any other team in the NFL.

    1. Pats-34 Bills-17

Barring camp injuries and any setbacks with Brady that should be around the area of how bad that game can turn out to be.

No Lynch, Owens first game against a tough secondary, Brady back and wanting to shine against an average D? Yeah should be a walk in the park. Especially with Moss and Brady wanting to tear it up.

Oh and the Bills basically downgraded at cornerback with the loss of Greer and still have no answer for Welker who last year tore them up with 9 catches over 100 yards in one of the games.

There is no gimmie wins in the NFL but the Bills without a doubt have the worst D in the AFC east.

    1. Keep dreamin', Bills. You bunch of putz's are going to 'handle' the Patriots this season just like you have the last 11 times you've met them.

    1. The sad thing is that it is probably true: 2009 is their best chance to beat NE. Sad if you are a bills fan that is.

    1. 2009: another "best chance in years" for the Bills to beat the Pats.
But adding TO not the same as adding Milloy.

I'm with Dorian - TO gives them 7 more than last fall, but Buffalo D is SO glaringly weak.

Did Tom's bestest friend and surgeon Dr. ReAttach prescribe these Bills for Tom's first return game?
