Thursday's multimedia leftovers

Posted by Chris Forsberg, Boston.com Staff July 31, 2009 09:49 AM

While you wait for Mike Reiss to report on all the activities from Day 2 of Patriots training camp in Foxborough, here's a handful of leftovers from Thursday's sessions to keep you busy:

The afternoon session featured a great diving grab by rookie quarterback-turned-wide receiver Julian Edelman (top left), quarterback Tom Brady getting on the same page with veteran wide receiver Joey Galloway (top right), and director of player personnel Nick Caserio working with receiver Randy Moss (bottom).

Click here for the full photo gallery. Some commenters chided us about being a little too Brady-heavy in our first gallery yesterday, and while Brady appears in a handful of shots in this gallery, we think you'll appreciate the diversity of shots.

Faulk on how Brady has changed

Patriots running back Kevin Faulk provided one of several light moments at morning press conferences following the rain-shortened first session of camp.

Asked about changes he's noticed in quarterback Tom Brady, Faulk laughed and repled: "Same Tom Brady I know. I got married two years ago, too, but nobody talked about that. So you know, I was the same guy, so he's just the same guy."

Belichick: Perception vs. Reality

With some fresh faces at the podium Thursday, some of the Q&A centered on what veteran acquisitions like Fred Taylor and Greg Lewis thought of Bill Belichick's coaching style after spending a summer in New England's system. Check out the audio below (the quotes are transcribed below that). But Belichick seems to agree with their "he's not as bad as it seems" assessment, joking with reporters during his own Q&A that, after 10 years, "I'd say I'm a lot friendlier."

Fred Taylor: "Before I got here, knowing that this has been a team that achieved championship status -- and usually your coach has to be a little off track if you’re going to be one of those teams that is always wining. Kind of like coach [Tom] Coughlin, I kind of pictured them in the same mold a little bit. [Belichick's] very passionate. He’s very detail oriented, but he’s a little more loose than coach Coughlin was. I think he’s going to be a great coach to play for. The perception before I got here was that he was just a hardball, tough, no-nonsense (coach), and he has his -- every coach has their moments -- but I think it will be a little easier to play for him than it was to play for coach Coughlin when I first got in. It’s not as hardball as I initially though... but it’s hard though.”

Greg Lewis: :"I thought coach Belichick was a tough guy, real stringent, army-like, and all of that, but being here and being around him, really he’s just passionate about football and he wants to get the best out of his players. He doesn’t take any nonsense, but like Fred [Taylor] said, he is willing to work with you and get to know you and you can get to know him. He’s a good coach to play for.”

Globe 10.0: Position battles

The Globe's Bob Ryan and Mike Reiss discuss potential position battles that could emerge this summer during Patriots training camp. Among the positions discussed: Outside linebacker (How do you replace Mike Vrabel?), inside linebacker (Can Gary Guyton take the next step in his progression?), backup quarterback (How has Kevin O'Connell developed?) and wide receiver (Will Joey Galloway, Greg Lewis, or Julian Edelman emerge as the third receiver?).

  1. You might ask Randy what he hopes Galloway and Lewis will bring to the offense.

  1. That was a pretty entertaining session; "he can't live off of that tackle of Champ Bailey forever" - classic.

Obviously Bob Ryan doesn't read your blog if he's leading with Corner as biggest concern.
