Training camp: Day 1

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff July 30, 2009 06:30 AM

The Patriots open training camp today, and the following is the schedule at Gillette Stadium:

  • 9:30 a.m.-11:15 a.m. -- Practice
  • 3:45 p.m.-5:30 p.m. -- Practice

Media members will interview players on the field following the first practice. Bill Belichick is scheduled to hold his first press conference at noon, in the lower level of the press box.

Our weekly Thursday Patriots chat here on Boston.com has been moved to 1 p.m.

The plan is to update the blog with some observations from practice around noon, follow up with some quick hits from Bill Belichick's press conference around 1 p.m., have the hour-long chat from 1-2 p.m., then wrap up the day with observations from the final practice around 6 p.m.

Bob Ryan's "Globe 10.0" is filming from camp today, and that video will also be posted on Boston.com.

As Bill Belichick has said in the past, it's time to get on the treadmill.

    It's football season.

    1. Mike, how will players use the intermission time? After lunch, will they have free time, or will they be in the classroom? How long is the lunch time and what do they eat?

    1. Mike,
I bet you wake up every morning and have to motivate yourself to go to work dont you...........not!
If you get a chance, please keep an eye on Ryan O Callaghan and the new DL rookies. I'm thinking that unless they really need them, the Pats are going to cut both Kaczur and Green to save cap space and renegotiate both Wilfork and Seymours contracts. With Warren, Wright, and some rookie influx, Green should be expendable. Kaczur cards were cooked the moment he had those drug issues last year, but Vollmer wont start so the Pats need O'Callaghan firing.

Mike, if Jarvis Green becomes a salary cap casualty, please find out from our 5th running back if he will change his name to BenRon Brace-Ellis. Thanks!
