With Patriots training camp set to open Thursday, the Globe's Mike Reiss digs beneath the surface to reveal a couple of the not-so-obvious story lines he'll be keeping an eye on as New England prepares for the 2009 season.

  1. Mike, I noticed you left out Matthew Slater in terms of returning. I know he struggled last season, especially in the Pittsburgh quagmire. Is he out of the picture as a candidate to be the #1 KR?
    You may have mentioned this before, so I apologize in advance, but who do you feel will take the place of Larry Izzo as the Patriots special teams leader?
    PS, You dress just like your coverage of the Patriots, fabulous!
