FOXBOROUGH -- Quarterback Tom Brady answered questions from reporters after this morning's walkthrough.
Here are a few notable snippets from the Q&A:
Are you ready to go on Thursday night?
“I’m ready. I think everybody is ready. We’ve had a good camp. I think guys have really been working hard, trying to do what Coach Belichick has asked. It will be nice for us to get out there and play the Eagles. They really gave it to us last year, so hopefully we perform better.”
Is Bill Belichick ready for you to play Thursday?
“I hope so. We haven’t talked about it, but he told the guys ‘everybody needs to be ready to play.’ So I’m expecting to play. There is no reason why I wouldn’t. I’ve been out here doing everything. It will be nice to get out there and play some football.”
Are you curious in your own way to see how you will react to your first hit, your first real live action?
“I’m really not. I’m more excited than anything. There is nothing to be nervous about for me. I’m just excited. I’m excited to see how our team performs – that’s what I’m most excited about, to see what the 2009 version of the Patriots can be like. We’ve had quite a bit of change, and guys coming off injuries, guys who are new to the team, and it’s really our first test to see what this team is going to be about.”
What is realistic for you – one set of downs, maybe two?
“I don’t know. It’s been a different training camp this year. I don’t know what he’s got in store. From his tone and the message he’s been sending to the team, it doesn’t sound like it’s going to be a first preseason game for us. I think he wants to see what we’re all about. I don’t think it’s like a guest appearance or anything like that. I think we’re going out there to play.”
When you say it’s been a different training camp, what do you mean by that?
“Just the amount of practices we’ve had. It’s really been an up-tempo camp. There has been no down time. We meet three times a day, we practice twice a day. We have night meetings. We’ve had one day off in about two-and-a-half weeks. Before, the schedule has been different and you’ve had a chance to catch your breath a little bit. Not this year. We just keep getting after it. There has been padded practices almost every day and I think the guys have responded to the challenge. We’ve come out and played well. I think Coach Belichick is happy with where we’re at. He doesn’t get on us too bad right now, which I guess that means we’re doing something right.”
