FOXBOROUGH – Second-year linebacker Gary Guyton is one of the more humble players in the Patriots’ locker room. This past offseason, for example, he returned to campus at Georgia Tech and worked as an office assistant when he wasn't in the Patriots' offseason program. One of his primary duties was shredding paper.

Guyton doesn’t want to forget where he came from, and this was reflected in a small tattoo on the inner part of his left wrist. The tattoo is the numbers 912.

“That’s Hinesville, Georgia, where I was born and raised,” Guyton said, referring to Hinesville’s area code. “I don’t get to go home a lot, but this way home is always with me.”

Guyton and the Patriots continue to prepare for Friday’s preseason game at Washington. They’ll be on the practice field this morning (10:35). Bill Belichick is scheduled to hold a press conference at 9:30.

More to come throughout the day.

  1. Now that the season is here Bruschi can go to Georgia and shred paper while Guyton takes his job.

  1. I knew somebody was going to go where Ryan, above, just went. I love Tedy Bruschi and I think he can still be a productive member of the team in a reduced role. I do love the idea of a Mayo-Guyton inside combo -- young, athletic, hardworking.

What Guyton has really shredded are all the evalutions that resulted in his being undrafted.

  1. I live in Brunswick, GA, and I've talked to a few people that know of Guyton. On two different occasions I was talking football and when they found out I was a Pats fan asked, "You know a local guy is on that team?" People around here a proud of him for working hard to achieve his dreams. It's good to see becoming a professional athlete doesn't necessarily mean leaving the past behind.

  1. Sounds like he's got a Troy Brown-type personality. Good, developing player who's got a good synchronized relationship with Mayo.

  1. Nothing like a trip to Washington to relive those shredding paper stories.

  1. Yes, Lance, indeed: A Troy Brown type personality.

Or, as I prefer: A Teddy Bruschi type.

I love Teddy Ice Cold Bruschi with a PASSION. His VORACIOUS Work Ethic are at the heart and soul of this burgeoning Dynasty. The fact that I've been howling for his replacement since the Super Bowl ~ and describing Guyton as STARTING ILB since Februrary, despite the squeals of the ignorant!! ~ does not change that!

LOVE this guy. I believe he's gonna make us and his home folk ~ and Teddy! ~ proud!!
