A look at a few key NFL dates:
Sept. 1 -- Rosters cut to a maximum of 75 players
Sept. 5 -- Rosters cut to a maximum of 53 players
Oct. 12-13 -- Fall owners meeting, Boston
Oct. 20 -- Trading deadline
Jan. 31 -- Pro Bowl, South Florida
Feb. 7 -- Super Bowl, South Florida
March 5 -- Free agency begins
the pro bowl is before the super bowl? wasn't it always a week after and in Hawaii, not FLA?
What bowl-bound player in their right mind would play risking injury and chance missing THE game for which the other 18 are played??
Hey Mike, I'm wondering what the logic is for having 5 days between cutting the roster from 75 to 53. Is anything gonna change during that time that would affect the final roster? Maybe an injury or something, but it seems like coaches would know at that point who is going to make the cut and five more days of seeing a player would not change that.
Pro bowl is before the Super bowl?
Mike, out of curiousity what number are the Patriots at roster-wise at the moment with all the comings and goings this past week. Are they that far off 75?
Given the proximity of the cutdown dates, I wonder if there are any more potential trades of players who would otherwise be cut. If Ryan O'Callahan does not make the team, for example, would KC give up a late pick for him? I guess Crable and Wheatley are both safe, but if BB did decide to cut bait on one of them, would any of the former Pats coaches bite?
Also curious that the Pats don't seem to trade much with the Falcons, though I believe their GM is from the Belichick tree.
C'mon people, where have you been during the last months? Pro Bowl is going to be played in Miami the week before the Super Bowl... Another "great idea" by comissioner Godell!
Yep. The league, in its infinite and messed up wisdom, is now holding the pro-bowl the week before the superbowl, and in the same city the superbowl is being played. The league sees this as a way to make more money from fans.
What the fans ACTUALLY get is more money sucked from their pockets to see a bunch of players who didn't make it to the superbowl play, with less prep time. There is NO WAY you will see superbowl players in this game!
I think they are at 75 now.
The Pats WERE at 77, but with the McKenzie and Ortiz signings, they're back up to 79.
When do they decide if it's going to be an uncapped year next year?
MaineMan, With McKenzie on out for the season, will he be counted as a roster spot?
No one out for the season (IR, etc.) counts against the 53-man roster.
