PHILADELPHIA -- The Globe's Mike Reiss and Chris Gasper run down five of the top story lines following the Patriots' 27-25 triumph over the Philadelphia Eagles Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Here's a cheat sheet (with the time each topic begins in case you want to hop to one in particular):

  • 1. Tom Brady's return (0:09)
  • 2. The 4-3 defense (0:44)
  • 3. Julian Edelman's big night (1:29)
  • 4. Backup quarterbacks (2:27)
  • 5. Michael Vick's signing (3:39)

For more postgame reaction, check out these clips from Tom Brady and Julian Edelman.

  1. Mike,
Let me first say this: you're the man.
That being said, what's up with the suit!? A little big, no?

  1. Dear Editor,

I played HS football at Amos Alonzo Stagg high in Stockton, CA 1973-1975 (21-1-1 my two years on varsity), at the University of Colorado 1976-1979 (77 Orange Bowl vs Ohio State), and was drafted by the NY Jets in the 6th round of 1980 (149th pick) and cut at the end of preseason. I played the 80 and 81 seasons with the SF 49er’s and had my first of 9 brain surgeries during the 81 Super Bowl season at Stanford hospital Sept of 1981. I had developed hydrocephalus from repeated concussions over my 12 years of playing football and they permanently installed a VP shunt to drain spinal fluid from my brain to abdomen.

I am currently coordinating with Dr. Cantu and Chris Nowinski of the Sports Legacy Institute to conduct Coaches Concussion Clinics (attached) and thought you might find my story interesting. The State of WA just passed legislation HB 1824 Youth Sports-Head Injury Policies (Zachery Lystedt Law), requiring all football coaches to have completed formal concussion training.

In addition I conduct Motivational/Goal setting speeches for teams, schools and businesses titled “Whatever It Takes- Using Adversity to Reach Your Goals”, and have started a draft of a book.

I have also signed up to donate what is left of my brain to the Sports Legacy Institute (www.sportslegacyinstitute.org), and have reached out to Ted Johnson, another CU alum, and head injury victim.

I would appreciate any feedback you have on this issue, as I am committed to trying to prevent any young player and families from going through the hell my family has endured the last 28 years.

    Thanks for your feed back.

  1. Mike, the suit is great. It is a half-size too big though (or a full size maybe), but it's a real nice touch.

  1. George, Although I find your story extremely interesting, compelling and I admire you for your history and efforts to help Ted and other players, I can't help but to think that your story would be better served in a different forum. If there is anything I can do to help you with your efforts please go ahead and request my email from Mike and I here by give my permission to do so.I also was injured in football and still to this day suffer. Lets get back on track here. The QB situation looks scary as far as the back ups. Hope we can sign Jay Feely if the Eagles cut him for Vick. He keeps burning us! That seems to be BBs way so, why not? Like in war, covert the enemy to your side then turn them on the former alliance. A true art form! I love this game! Hey guys, easy on Mike, he is young still and will grow into that suit, lol! Sorry Mike only, kidding, I thought it looked fine, really. My comments during the game never made it to this dialog area. Was there technological issues or did I breach some protocol? Could be all those shots that I took. Can't remeber all of it but it was pure genius, I think. Edleman was great, Brady was back faster than I ever dreamed, my cable service makes me miss games and I asked Mr. Kraft to help me, not miss watching the greatest team ever to suit up. The Pats are back, can't wait to meet Matty and the Chiefs!
