Crable to IR

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 5, 2009 07:12 PM

The Patriots announced that second-year linebacker Shawn Crable (groin) has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.

RB Chris Taylor (shoulder) has also been placed on IR.

The team confirmed earlier news that rookie OL George Bussey (knee) has been placed on IR.

  1. Why ? Two years... two IR's... and I thought I was getting paid for doing nothing... enough foolishness, let's move on from this insanity.

  1. O'Connell, Crable and Thomas.......all third round busts.

  1. So glad we traded Vrable away. Be on the lookout for the new patriots formation this year, the 6-1. With all the talent on offense, the defense is going to be awful....

  1. how many players are now on the roster?

  1. OMG! This is so shocking, he has been so injury prone in his nascent career.

    Good luck next year, Shawn.

  1. Zach Thomas was released by the Chiefs. Mike or Chris, is there any shot the Pats take a flyer on him to add depth to the LB corp?

  1. Patriots release 10: Adams, Britt, Jones, Lenon, Love, Nunn, O'Callaghan, Richard, Smith & Ventrone.

  1. Crable should be kicking a can....2 years in a row on IR...seems like a player in poor condition due to lousy work ethics....what's his upside??!!

  1. We know how to pick them don't we.

  1. Whoa...any LB deals in the works? We're ultra-thin at this point.

  1. How bad of a Groin injury can it be? A whole year? I really cheer for Crable but he pisses me off to (expletive).

He takes off a year because of a groin injury?

  1. what a sad excuse for a player. just release him and move on.

  1. He doesn't take the dam* year off. The coaches and trainors make that decision you idiot.

  1. Slater will go to IR after the Pats acquired the next player.

  1. Maybe this is who Hobbs was talking about... pretty candy ass if you ask me. LB's need to be tuf, and so far he has shown he is not. Hope I eat my words 2 years down the rd., but really-- it's ridiculous-- dude can't even get thru the preseason-- weak!

  1. why not just PUP?

Posted by slackfarmer September 5, 09 07:35 PM
  1. A groin injury is just as debilitating as a knee or achilles injury. The fact that they IR'ed him rather than a release or injury buy out tells me that he is injured rather than just "hurt"

  1. Crable is First Team All-IR

  1. BUST!

  1. Again, geez weez, this guy is the Lawrence "Baloney" Maroney of the defense. I guess we can start calling him Shawn Frail-ble. God!!!!! may the turk visit this bust next year.

  1. Ninkovich over Crable is something I've been expecting (and writing about here) since pre-season Week 2. Ninkovich may pass Woods on the depth chart.

Crable to IR instead of the P/S (he was still eligible with only 7 weeks "active" last season), probably means that he's really hurt bad or that the Pats didn't think he'd make it through waivers (probably wouldn't have).

Slater NOT going to IR (yet - still could) was a bit of a surprise.

  1. This China Doll is damaged goods.
Uh, does the draft have a return policy?

  1. Crable looks GREAT the few times you get him on the field...

  1. Crable has been an unmitigated disaster!

  1. #24 "Ninkovich over Crable is something I've been expecting (and writing about here) since pre-season Week 2."

News flash to Maine Ninkovich did not beat out Crable. Crable was put on IR. That's a huge difference from Ninkovich beating him out "over him" for a roster spot

  1. Shocking... He was one of the guys who worked out like crazy all off-season. This is career ending...

  1. Bigfoot, the Loch Ness monster, Shawn Crable in a regular season Patriots game....... They are all about the same......believe it when I see it.
May pan out eventually, but man, this is getting old. In his defense, I'm sure he's more disappointed than anyone.

Posted by jaxpatriot September 5, 09 08:55 PM
  1. Frustrating....is he any good or not?????? We're going to have to wait at least another entire year to find out.

Posted by Backinthesaddleagain September 5, 09 09:34 PM
  1. You gotta be morons to think this guy is going to pan out. Face it

Total busts O'Connell, Thomas, Crable, the list goes on and on.

Stop being yahoos and acknowledget that their drafting sucked for the past 4 years.

Yes, their free agent, undrafted stuff has been superb. It's going to kill them.

  1. Betty Crable

  1. Don't worry, he'll be healthy again right in time for the lockout.

    Posted by David B September 5, 09 10:37 PM
  1. @MaineMan #24--

I am not sure Crable had PS eligibility.

Here is the definition of an accrued season: 6 or more regular-season games in one season in which a player is on the 53-man protected roster, IR list or PUP list.

So being on the IR last year would give him and accrued season and you can't be on the practice squad after having an accrued season.

That's if I understand it all correctly...
