Harrison on T.O.: 'He's a clown'
Rodney Harrison announced his retirement this summer, ending the 15-year career of one of the hardest-hitting safeties of his era.
But just because he's done playing doesn't mean that the former Patriot can't still deliver a blow.
During an interview with WEEI's "The Dale and Holley Show" this afternoon, Harrison directed some pointed comments at Bills wide receiver Terrell Owens. During a conference call with Boston media yesterday, Owens made a few mild cracks about the Patriots, including one alluding to Spygate.
That was all Harrison needed to hear.
"I'm pumped about T.O. opening up his big mouth about the Patriots," said Harrison, who has joined NBC Sports as a studio analyst on its "Football Night in America" program. "I can actually put a bounty on T.O. if I wanted and not get in any trouble."
Harrison said that Owens is a "phenomenal" player, but his accomplishments are obscured by his off-the-field antics.
"He's a clown," Harrison said. "He's all about the circus show and the cameras. But you better believe he'll have Shawn Springs in his grill and Brandon Meriweather putting his helmet down his throat. So, I'm excited about seeing that on Monday."
This isn't the first time Harrison has expressed his annoyance at T.O. Before the Super Bowl XXXIX matchup between the Patriots and Philadelphia Eagles to cap the 2004 season, Owens and fellow Eagles receiver Freddie Mitchell talked considerable trash about Harrison and the Patriots' defensive backs.
Harrison had the last laugh, snaring the victory-clinching interception, then mocking the Eagles with Owens's trademark celebration in which he pretended to be an eagle flapping its wings.
"He's so miserable . . . he seeks so much attention," Harrison said today. "Something happened a long, long [time] ago, before we even knew T.O., that just made him like this.
"His clown-act antics and his tactics just take away . . . Year after year, the story we should be talking about is his playmaking ability, the big plays and his potential Hall of Fame career."

Gotta love Rodney. He doesn't pull any punches. Still.
Add to that T.O.'s hands-of-stone and combine it with a cold Buffalo winter along with a weak-armed QB and you've got pure entertainment from a Patriots perspective.
Monday can't come soon enough.
Harrison is the man! Looking forward to his honest opinions being stated on national tv.
Gotta love Rodney. He doesn't pull any punches. Still.
Love you Hot Rod! I'll bet that your team is missing you.
T-T (Me crying)
We miss you, 'Rowdy' Rodney Harrison.
I hope Merriweather does give T.O. a good shot to his chin. When the cat (Rodney Harrison) is away, the mice (T.O.) say stupid things. But the mice don't know the cat left some kittens (Merriweather and Sanders) to rip their faces off.
I think this will be a good chance to see what type of pain Merriweather can inflict on opponents. He's already talked about getting back into the mindset of landing punsihing blows, now he has a specific person, time, and place!
TO is 0-3 lifetime against the Patriots.
How great is Rodney for this role? He basically just said what everyone thinks.
We miss you rodney !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you should bring some popcorn to watch t.o miss good throws
T.O. is a suicidal freak? He isn't playing with a full deck. Rodney shouldn't waste his time on him. But it's good for business, at least Rodney's new business.
He's still not as bad as Brandon Marshall.
Nice posts, one and all.
And let me remind you of what I've already said many times: Pat Chung brings EVERYTHING Rodney Harrison did, which, as you obviously know, is a TON. He WILL Command that Secondary by the end of the year.
It's PROBABLY too early to expect him to land his 1st Harrisonesque KneeBuckling, ToothRattling HIT, THIS early...But I'll be keeping an EYE out for it, just the same!!
I cannot wait for Monday night.
Rodney Harrison is the clown. He mouths off about T.O. from the booth, knowing T.O. has no recourse. He should have retired two years earlier, and he cost us the Super Bowl. Hey, Rodney...David Tyree is out of the league. Gone. He stinks. He made you look like a washed up woman. You cost us the Super Bowl. And you sit in your new perch and mouth off about someone who would have 25 catches for 450 yardsif he was going against you. Grow up.
Freddie Mitchell!!! Oh man. Speaking of clowns. Whats that guy doing now? He couldn't catch a pass to save his life.
Rodney, come play for the Patriots again... please?
Rodney harrison was a clown himself .. clown recognize clown
hey bostonboobblowhard....blow it out your you-know-what. This is a Patriots page. Go over to Buffalo's web site and kiss T.O.s meglomaniac buttocks.
Rodney was, and is, the man.
BostonBoobblowhard, That's Funny You Are No Boston Fans, I Guess You Hate Pats, Especially Rodney Harrison, Too. That's Too Bad. Why Are You Here For ? So What ? You Should No Involved With T.O. And Rodney Harrison. Thier Of Business Problems. I Guess I Am Proud Of Rodney Harrison Got 3 Rings Already The Best Job SB. He Did Not Care About Giants Won Becuz He Knew David T. Got One Ring. But Rodney Got More 3 Rings Than David T. Got One. I Guess Rodney Harrison Got Smart Man!!
Hey T, Lmao You Got Right!!
Go Rodney Harrison I Love You!!!
Go Pats!!!
Addressed to Blowhard... Yes, Tyree caught the pass that pretty much won the Super bowl... And he did it with his helmet no less... But if you've watched the play, you'd know Rodney did all he could... It was just one of the luckiest plays ever... And if you want to say its Rodneys fault, then I guess the reason we just got rid of Seymour was because he couldn't hold onto Manning on the very same play? Cmon bud, grow up a bit... Rodney did NOT lose that game... The offensive line and Brady lost that game... And as for TO... I just find it funny that people are still surprised when he opens his stupid-ass mouth... He hasn't said an intelligent thing his entire career.
Will definitely enjoy watching the pats stop all over the Bills monday!
