O'Callaghan to K.C.

Posted by Mike Reiss, Globe Staff September 6, 2009 06:25 PM

Former Patriots offensive lineman Ryan O'Callaghan has been awarded to the Kansas City Chiefs on waivers.

The Browns also put in a claim on O'Callaghan, but the Chiefs had priority based on having the worse record in 2008.

Former Patriots Vice President of Player Personnel Scott Pioli is in his first year as Chiefs general manager, so he has a background with O'Callaghan, a 2006 fifth-round draft choice in New England.

  1. Darn, I was hoping O'Callaghan wouldn't be picked up and there would be some way for the Pats to keep him.

  1. Though health issues plagued him throughout college and the Patriots, he nonetheless remained an intriguing O-lineman. Surely, Kazcur could have transitioned to guard if needed. Nope... once again BB sees the world as," in the kingdom of the blind, the one eyed man is King".

  1. no surprise there. kinda sucks to have these Denver and K.C. connections that snap up players that normally may trickle back to the patriot's practice squad...

  1. Good for Scott, at least Man-gina got blocked.

BTW, I was reading on one of those football blogs that the reason no one wanted Feeley was that his 1.3 million salary was guaranteed if he was on the roster past Saturday.

  1. I knew he'd be picked up quick. He's a solid player.

  1. Completely unsurprising. He'll probably start for them.

  1. Looks like BB is stocking up on roadgrader guards to improve the running game. He needs to do that as 2007 proves that even the best passing without a dependable running game cannot win you championships.

  1. I wonder what Todd Haley thinks of Pioli bringing in BB's guys?

  1. What a joke. Pioli's severance package continues to reap benefits. 8-8 here we come.

  1. Want to know what a loser is? When the person a J-E-T-S fan and they comment on this board pretending to be a Pats fan. Guess it's such a hopeless franchise loser fans need to do SOMETHING to amuse themselves outside of their drafting every year.

  1. Chiefs fan here. Just doing a little research on the new tackle. Looks like you guys have plenty of positive things to say about him. Are the Pats pretty deep at right tackle? Sounds like he's had a few injuries? It's no secret that Chiefs are very weak on the right side so any player brought in is an upgrade. Hope this guy works out because I would love to see Cassel stay vertical. BTW, sorry about Brady last season. Pollard has been released by the Chiefs so right now he's unemployed. Thanks guys. Good luck in 09. Go Chiefs (and Pats)

  1. so I may be mistaken but I thought that O'Callahan played in the first meeting with the NY Giants, and essentially handled Strahan. Strahan had really no highlights in that game. But in the Super Bowl, O'Callahan was hurt and Strahan lite up the Pats. Maybe I'm wrong. But perhaps O'Callahan will help you.
