The Patriots announced that they have added four players to their practice squad today:

  • T Patrick Brown
  • DL Adrian Grady
  • QB Isaiah Stanback
  • CB DeAngelo Willingham

None of the players were with the team in training camp, although Grady took a pre-draft visit to Gillette Stadium.

The Patriots have now signed seven players to the practice squad. There is one available opening.

    A "quick-hit" on each player:

  • Brown (6-5, 312) was originally signed by the Carolina Panthers as a rookie free agent out of Central Florida on April 30, 2009. He was waived by the Panthers in their final cuts.

  • Grady (6-1, 290) was originally signed by the Indianapolis Colts as a rookie free agent out of Louisville on April 30, 2009. He was waived by the Colts in their final cuts.

  • Stanback (6-2, 208) spent the last two seasons with the Dallas Cowboys after joining the team as a fourth-round draft pick out of Washington in 2007. He played quarterback in college but was converted to a wide receiver and kickoff returner by Dallas. Stanback played in two games in 2007 and eight games last season before ending the 2008 season on injured reserve with a shoulder injury. His NFL totals include two receptions for 24 yards and 13 kickoff returns for 296 yards.

  • Willingham (6-0, 200) was originally signed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a rookie free agent of Tennessee on April 30, 2009. He was waived by Tampa Bay and claimed by the Dallas Cowboys at the end of August. The Cowboys waived Willingham in their final cuts.

    1. Stanback is a serious athlete but he needs to learn the WR position.

    1. You know it;s a smart move signing all these players who didnt make other teams lineups. I:ll tell you why...

First of all, You bring in a player with knowledge of another teams system. You would think the better coaches know this and ease the peddle on the playvook before the real season, the regular season begins. So getting a player who has been with a team for a couple seasons will give you at least a few pointers on opposing teams playbook.ala kevin O;connell

Secondly, the players you did have in camp that didnt make the cut, and cleared waivers, are still going to be somewhat loyal to you, and remain a futture option. So as you get a look at the new player you brought in, you do have another player on the side with at least some familiarity with and comparision.

And Finally Taking players from other teams, does take away an option for another team, and that is never bad. Go Pats!
