  1. I thought O'Callaghan would make it. I was rooting for Nunn. I guess having enough talent that you have to make tough decisions is a good problem to have

  1. Vollmer becomes the only backup at either tackle spot? Should put him in line for alot of snaps. Im fine with that.

  1. With the lack of offensive lineman in KC, BB could not have traded O'Callaghan and Britt combined for say a 5th round pick to make-up for the one they lost releasing Alex Smith!

  1. Yay #45 made it!

  1. Are there restrictions on how many times a team can place a player on the practice squad? Can the Patriots bring back players like Yates and O'Callahan (assuming they cleared waivers) onto the practice squad?

  1. Ninkovich deserved it!

  1. What happened to Shawn Crable?

Posted by Scot September 5, 09 07:53 PM
  1. They are in a horrible depth position. They may be younger at linebacker but they have nothing after mayo and guyton. And before anyone jumps on me, yeah I know they have adalius thomas, when he starts playing like the stud that they paid him to be I'll reconsider my comments and even eat crow. But still the depth is not good after the front line.

  1. IR, Scot. Again.

  1. Would rather have Hochstein than any of the back up O-Linemen...

Got nothing for Thomas and Alex Smith---just threw away another 3rd and a fifth...

Talk about a lack of depth--look at QB and inside LB...

In Bill we trust but some very poor drafting.....

  1. @Steve

What did you think you were getting when we got AD. Maybe you should check his numbers, which are inline with his career with the Ravens.

His first year he had to learn a new system and we played him all over the damn place(allot of ILB) on top of learning a new defensive system. Add to that, if you know the Pats at all, the Pats D system is NOT one geared towards any individual putting up gaudy numbers.

Last year he was on pace for a double digit sack total before he broke his arm. Wait, let me guess you blame him for breaking his arm right?

The most sacks he had in his whole career is only 11. Guys do different things in different systems and have different roles and responsibilities in those systems.

If he has the kind of year he was having last year before getting hurt I will be more than satisfied, as a fan, with his play.

  1. relax, lets let things playout. This a young team, and will have growing pains. Lets see what happens in the end. I think this team will go 13-3

  1. For those of you so concerned about the Pats' 2009 defense, here's my Fearless forecast:

    Passing D = 16+ INTs, 35-40 sacks,

    Rushing D =

  1. I think they should have traded Ben Watson because he has never lived up to his potential.

  1. Ninkovich is still around YES!!! I'm glad he is being noticed.

  1. Steve,

Why don't you go watch another TV because you are so negative. Nothing good to say.

  1. Steve K,

Yes my bad. I was rushing.

  1. The Matthews trade caught me by surprise.Otherwise not over upset about any of the other moves.I'm sure that BB would prefer a solid 60 man roster but it it what it is....

  1. @showtime,

That's great, everything's great 24/7 with when it comes to the Pats. So let me see if I get your point, if a comment is true but doesn't shine the Pats in a favorable light then you should watch another TV. Not change the channel, but go out and get another TV. No one can do any criticizing of anything with them as far as you are concerned. I get it.

@ Low-fb iq - AT racks up stats in non crucial points of the game/season. I will grant you last year before he was injured he was playing well. But he has made maybe 3 big plays that I can remember. I don't blame him for getting injured, but it doesn't change the fact that he hasn't been as big a game changer as he was made out to be, or has the potential to be. Especially for someone his size and with his speed. 2007 stats from a defensive standpoint are extremely deceiving, remember they were up by 20 pts in 3/4 of the games they played. SO passing was the only option for opposing teams and he was able to then rush the passer. I'll say it again, they are thin in the depth chart at LB.

  1. @Steve --

That's funny you mentioned some things that prove my points to you.

First I love when people say that he or someone "was made out to be". So you are basically saying you simply listen to the talking heads and build up your own un-researched expectations that someone should meet right? Boy you must set yourself up for allot of disappointment in life doing that.

2nd we all know what Parcells used to say about potential. If you don't, might want to look it up. You don't judge people on your own perceived potential. ESPECIALLY on size and speed. Why do you think the workout wonders at the combine are so often not panning out when drafted higher then their actual on field performances dictate. AD has basically been what he was with he Ravens. Different numbers and personnel but basically very similar numbers.

3rd and my favorite is that you brought up special/impact/critical plays. I think you are confusing your arguments with Vrabel that year not AD. Agreed our D stats were skew'd because we were able to pin our ears back and get after the QB. BUT. Although Vrabel never had a single sack that year when we were trailing, AD had a couple. Akin to a baseball player hitting the home run in the bottom of the 9th when his team is trailing, more clutch. Yes, i get your very good point but you got the wrong guy. Sorry you didn't finish your research on that one. Lastly you could also argue he was the best Defensive player on the field that day for the Patriots. Tied for 2nd in solo tackles from the OLB position in a 3-4, He had 2 sacks and 1 Forced Fumble. What bigger game is there to be a force in other than the superbowl?

Do your home work please but thanks for the discussion.

  1. I still find it rather amusing that so many here think they know more about football than BB. Did it ever occur to anyone that some of these cuts shows the depth of talent on this team?

  1. Quit your fighting boys-girls. In Bill we trust. Remember there is always something up his sleeve.

Posted by Money Man September 6, 09 12:23 PM
  1. low fb iq,

How much did the pats pay for him? Thats where I get 'made out to be', not from listening to people like you talk. I did look at his stats, and they went up in the 4th quarter, garbage time in alot of those games, especially in the first half of the seasons games.

You wasted 3 paragraphs acting like I said he never made a play. Read my comments before going off on one of your article type posts please. I said he made 3 big plays that I remember, or was memorable. And he wasn't a game changer otherwise they would have won the SB, right?
