Scenes from the locker room: Chung's iPod dock
Throughout the season we'll try to give you a glimpse inside the Patriots' locker room, whether it's the new Red Bull station next to Nick Kaczur's locker or teammates goofing around with each other, hopefully we can bring you some of the personality of the team through the sights and sounds of the locker room.
Music is unavoidable inside the Patriots' locker room. It's probably no surprise that iPods are everywhere and players often slip on a pair of headphones as they catch a break in the action at their locker stalls.
And other times the music is shared with those around them. Late last month as reporters interviewed Tedy Bruschi, King of Leon's "Closer" from the album Only By the Night was blaring through one end of the locker room.
Yesterday, an iPod Touch was docked inside a speaker system inside rookie Pat Chung's locker playing tracks from Rick Ross's album, Deeper than Rap. In the video above, Jonathan Wilhite -- who occupies the stall next to Chung -- scanned for a track as Ross's "Lay Back" blared through the area occupied by defensive backs.

i can see what direction reiss's pieces (or whatever the future incarnation will be called) is going after mike leaves, and i can't say i like it too much.
it seems like there will be more emphasis on easy-to-report, "soft" items like players' lifestyle preferences, what's going on in the locker room, etc., rather than harder-to-report items like defensive and offensive formations, player participation percentages, etc. (which requires the tedious task of reviewing video play-by-play and tabulating statistics).
oh well, good thing mike will just be a mouse-click away.
I hope this isn't the kind of coverage we're going to get full time when Reiss leaves.
It's worth noting Pat Chung's mother was a professional reggae singer.
Woah. Stop the presses. There's music in a football lockerroom? Shocking. What's next? Telling us whether a player prefers boxers or briefs?
Thanks Chris! As a counterpoint to the carping about this kind of reporting I appreciate you sharing a little of the atmosphere around Gillette. Naturally that doesn't take you off the hook for the level of balanced and informative news we've come to expect from this blog - so get digging.
Reiss' blog rocked, and I want it to continue, but I also like this "fluff" stuff. If we get a good balance, ie 85% "hard" analysis and 15% fluff, I'm fine with that. I'm interested in these guys as players and as people. If you ONLY want x's and o's, then you know where to get them...
