Megan Khang made three birdies on Wednesday, the last on the 17th hole at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind., to win her first-round match at the US Girls’ Junior, 2 and 1, over Alice Chen of Princeton, N.J.

Khang, a 15-year-old from Rockland, was the 40th seed among the 64 match-play participants after shooting 73-78 in stroke play. She’ll face Hannah O’Sullivan of Paradise Valley, Ariz., in the Round of 32 on Thursday morning, looking to do something she couldn’t do in her four previous appearances at the US Girls’ Junior: move into the Round of 16. O’Sullivan, the No. 8 seed, won her opening match, 6 and 5.
