Elin Nordegren, the ex-wife of Tiger Woods who was thrust into the national spotlight when news of the golfer’s infidelity hit the media in 2009, delivered a commencement address at Rollins College over the weekend. Nordegren delivered the speech as the Winter Park, Florida school’s Outstanding Graduating Senior.
Much of Nordegren’s speech was typical graduation fluff, but the mother of two didn’t shy away from the subject she’s best known for.
“I’ve been called a woman with no words in the media, and criticized for not talking very much,” she said.
A psychology major, Nordegren enrolled in the school nine years ago after moving to the U.S. from Sweden. She graduated from Rollins with a 3.96 GPA.
“When I entered my student advisor’s office in the fall of 2005, I was 25-years-old,” she said. “I had recently just moved to America. I was married without children. Today, nine years later, I’m a proud American and I have two beautiful children.”
After brief applause, she added to laughter from the crowd, “And I’m no longer married.”
Woods lost endorsements with Nike , Gatordade, Gillette, and Accenture following the cheating allegations , for which he later entered rehab for sex addiction. He is sitting out the current PGA Tour season with an injury.
