Reese, Meshiai lead Champions Tour quals

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Hajime Meshiai, an 11-time winner on the Japanese PGA Tour, shot 69 Sunday to retain a share of the lead after five rounds of the Champions Tour national qualifying tournament.

Meshiai, who has led or shared the lead since the third round, is tied with former PGA Tour and Nationwide Tour player Don Reese (66) at 19-under 341. R.W. Eaks (69), another Nationwide Tour veteran, is alone in third at 18-under and past PGA Tour winner Brad Bryant (67) and Mark Johnson (70) are tied at 17-under.

The top seven players after Monday's sixth and final round at the World Golf Hall of Fame King & Bear Course will receive full exemptions onto the 2005 Champions Tour. The next eight will receive conditional exemptions.

The Champions Tour qualifying tournament was increased to six rounds this year, after being contested over four rounds since 1986.

Meshiai reached the Champions Tour last year by finishing in a tie for third at the qualifying tournament, but had to go back through the process when he finished 74th on the money list.
