Canadian Mike Weir won for the first time since early in the 2004 season, shooting a 2-under-par 68 yesterday for a one-stroke victory over Australia's Mark Hensby in the Fry's Electronics Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Weir secured the win with a 6-foot par putt after hitting his approach on the par-4 18th into a greenside bunker.

The 2003 Masters champion took the lead with a birdie on the par-4 15th, rolling a chip shot to a foot, then held off Hensby (69) over the final three holes on a warm, blustery day at Grayhawk Golf Club.

Weir finished at 14-under 266 for his eighth PGA Tour victory, and first since the 2004 Nissan Open, a span of 87 starts.

"Definitely been tough not winning," said Weir, who earned $900,000 to jump from 84th to 33d on the money list. "You know, that's what we're all out here to do, and 3 1/2 years has been quite a long time."

Play crawled along as players coped with 25-mile-per-hour gusts, which kicked up dust in the desert.

LPGA - Norwegian star Suzann Pettersen won the Hana Bank Championship when high wind and unplayable conditions on the stressed putting surfaces forced tournament officials to call off the final round in Gyeongju, South Korea.

"It's not the way I want to win," Pettersen said. "You want to complete the tournament as it is originally set up, but this time the last round wasn't playable."

She's the first non-South Korean winner in the six-year history of the event. South Korea's Eun Hee Ji finished a stroke back. Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa tied for 12th at 3 over after rounds of 72 and 75.

The course was deemed unplayable after days of strong wind on the greens that were already severely stressed by more than 20 inches of rain.

Champions - John Cook won his first title in his second start on the 50-and-over circuit, closing with a 6-under 65 for a two-stroke victory over Mark O'Meara (69) in the AT&T Championship in San Antonio.

Cook, the 11-time PGA Tour winner who turned 50 Oct. 2, began the round two strokes behind O'Meara and Tom Kite and was three behind after a bogey on the par-4 third hole at Oak Hills Country Club. But Cook birdied the next two holes, and added five more to finish at 15-under 198.

Kite shot a 70 to tie for third with Fred Funk (67) and Loren Roberts (67). Kite dropped to 0 for 120 in his home state.

European - Steve Webster won the Portugal Masters in Vilamoura by two strokes over Robert Karlsson (65) after shooting an 8-under 64 (25-under 263) in the final round.

Japan LPGA - Japan's Miho Koga shot a 6-under 66 (9-under 207) for a four-stroke victory over American star Paula Creamer (70) in the Masters GC Ladies in Miki, Japan.

Nationwide - Ron Whittaker won the Chattanooga (Tenn.) Classic to wrap up a spot next year on the PGA Tour, closing with a 2-under 70 (17-under 271) for a one-stroke victory over David McKenzie.

Providence's Patrick Sheehan went 69 -273 to finish tied for third.
