Lorena Ochoa hustled around the corner, hoping to jump in a car and catch a flight home to Mexico.

No chance.

There were about 100 people waiting for her in the resort lobby yesterday, some seeking pictures and autographs, others hoisting glasses of champagne.

Ochoa, 26, became the second LPGA player ever, and the first in 45 years, to win four tournaments in consecutive weeks. Ochoa shot a 3-under 69 in the final round of the Ginn Open in Reunion, Fla., beating rookie Yani Tseng by three strokes for her fifth victory in six starts this year.

"I'm very grateful. It's been a blessing, you know," Ochoa said. "But I know that bad times will come. It's just the way life is."

Ochoa trailed early in the final round, but went ahead for good with three straight birdies beginning at No. 8, finishing at 19-under 269.

Mickey Wright won four LPGA events in four weeks in 1962 and 1963. Kathy Whitworth (1969) and Annika Sorenstam (2001) also won four consecutive events, but both had a week off during their runs. Sorenstam (2004-05) and Nancy Lopez (1978) hold the tour record with five straight victories in events entered, but neither of those came in consecutive weeks.

PGA - Boo Weekley successfully defended his Verizon Heritage title, closing with an even-par 71 for a three-stroke victory over Anthony Kim (71) and Aaron Baddeley (71) at Hilton Head Island, S.C.

Last year, Weekley needed chips-ins on the 71st and 72d holes to beat Ernie Els by a stroke on a Monday morning for his first PGA Tour victory.

Weekley, who finished at 15-under 269, gave the gallery a thumb's up as they loudly cheered, "Boooo!" He bowed to the fans and threw up his hands in triumph. "I wanted to do the moonwalk, the belly-roll," Weekley said.

Champions - Tom Watson defended his Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am title, saving bogey after hitting into the water on No. 18 for a 1-under 70 and a one-stroke victory over Jay Haas and Scott Hoch in Lutz, Fla. Watson, 58, finished at 9 under for his 50th title on the Champions and PGA tours.

Nationwide - Robert Damron made a 14-foot birdie putt on the first hole of a playoff with Greg Owen to win the Athens (Ga.) Regional Foundation Classic. After birdieing the final two holes of regulation to force the extra session at 11-under 277, Owen came up short on a 12-foot birdie putt to give Damron the title.
