Bob Green secured a two-stroke victory after shooting 72 in an NEPGA Senior Chapter tournament at his home course, Tedesco CC. Lou Katsos of Blue Hills finished second, while Chuck Frithsen of Golf Country was third with a 76.
Tom Johnson fired a 4-under 68 for a three-stroke win over Rusty Gunnarson in a Cape Cod Pro-Am at Pocasset GC. Jeff Dantas and Bill Kay tied for third with 72s.
One week after winning a Gateway Tour tournament, Jamie Neher of Weston shot 70-75-67 to finish second in Jensen Beach, Fla. Former Boston College golfer Tim Connors was sixth and Justin Peters of Pembroke was seventh.
With a round of 74, Paul Mitchell of Roslindale scored a three-stroke victory in a Boston Amateur Golf Society tournament at Sandy Burr in Wayland. At Newport National in Rhode Island, Rich Bracker of Seekonk shot 77 for a one-stroke victory. In the 36-hole Cape Cod Spring Championship at Dennis Pines and Bayberry Hills, Glenn Watson shot 160 to edge Tom Dromgoole by a stroke.
David Markuson shot 78 to score a one-stroke victory in a Tour of Greater Boston tournament at Sandy Burr.
University of Hartford men's coach William Poutre has stepped down to take a similar job with Long Beach State. A former CEO of Prime Financial, Poutre was named America East Coach of the Year after winning conference championships in 2006 and 2007. Poutre, who played for the Hawks, is a 1988 graduate of Hartford. He also graduated from the MIT School of Management.
Middlebury rolled to an eight-stroke victory over the host team in the Williams Spring Invitational at Taconic GC in Williamstown. Medalist honors were captured by Hayley Milbourn of Amherst, who shot 80-74.
Sacred Heart's Patrick Fillian shot three consecutive 71s to finish second and lead his team to victory in the Northeast Conference Championship in Hershey, Pa. Central Connecticut was third.
The University of Rhode Island finished third in the Atlantic 10 Championship in Orlando, Fla. Mark Stevens, a sophomore from Concord, N.H., shot 70-71-73 to share eighth place as the Rams' leading scorer.
Navy rolled to the Patriot League championship in Bethlehem, Pa. Senior Matt Czarnecki shot 78-80-78 to finish tied for seventh and help Holy Cross get into fourth place.
At the Cavalier Classic in Charlottesville, Va., North Reading's Evan Harmeling, a freshman at Princeton, shot 69-73 to finish tied for fifth.
Sophomore Dave McAndrew of Barrington, R.I., finished the season with the lowest stroke average (73.2) for the Stetson University Hatters.
The 41st annual Francis Ouimet Memorial Tournament will open July 30 at Wollaston GC in Milton, then shift to Framingham CC the next day, before winding down with its traditional final round at Woodland GC in Newton.
