Costaregni triumphs

Mark Costaregni of The International fired a 3-under 69 to post a two-stroke victory in the Nantucket Boys & Girls Club NEPGA Pro-Am at Sankaty Head on Nantucket. Scott Trethewey of the Milton-Hoosic Club and Paul Parajeckas of Pleasant Valley CC shared second, while Mike Baker of Tarratine GC in Dark Harbor, Maine, shot 72 to finish fourth. Troy Pare of Wannamoisett shot 74 to finish fifth. Randy Grills of the Duxbury Yacht Club anchored the winning team at 140 in the gross division, while Frank Dully of Kernwood CC led a team that shot 131 to take low net.

At an NEPGA Massachusetts chapter Pro-Am at Blackstone National GC in Sutton, there was a three-way tie at 1-over 73 among Rick Durocher of Concord CC, Scott Hickey of Norton CC, and Chuck Frithsen of Golf Country. Mark Mangion of Groveland Fairways shot 74 to finish fourth.

Justin Peters of Pembroke shot 67-68-73 to finish fourth in the first tournament of the Gateway Tour's summer series in south Florida.

Tournaments
Irwin back aboard
Two-time former champion Hale Irwin has committed to play in the Bank of America Championship (June 20-22) at Nashawtuc CC in Concord. The career money leader on the Champions Tour, Irwin triumphed at Nashawtuc in 1997-98 and he'll be making his 10th appearance in the event. Tournament officials also announced that Fall River native Mark Johnson has been granted the final sponsor's exemption. Tickets for the tournament are available by calling 866-559-4653 or via bankofamericachampionship.com.

The two-week window to purchase tickets for the PGA Tour's Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston ends Sunday evening. To order tickets, call 877-849-4322, go to dbchampionship.com, or stop at any Stop & Shop. The tournament (Aug. 29-Sept. 1) again will be the second stop in the Fed-Ex Cup playoff series. Tickets also are available for practice rounds (Aug. 26-28).

Women
One better in two-ball
Despite steady rain Friday, Susan Curtin of the Boston Golf Club and Pam Kuong of Charles River CC combined to shoot 73 and win the Norfolk County Women's Two-Ball Classic at Presidents GC in Quincy. Penny Locke and LauraJean MacDonald finished second, one stroke back.

The host club entry of Rosemary Leblanc and Nancy Dacosta combined for a 77 to win Class A & B at the annual WGAM Cris Eaton Foursomes at Allendale CC. Chris Coughlin and Joyce LaBonte of Green Hill Municipal finished second, one stroke back. In Class C, D, & E, Sandra Jordan and Carol Cahill of Presidents GC shot 86 to post a three-stroke victory.

Next up for the WGAM is the 56th annual Baker Trophy, set for Monday and Tuesday at Eastward Ho! in Chatham. Tara Joy Connelly of Cohasset GC is the two-time defending champion in this 36-hole stroke-play tournament.

Seniors
A tie at the top
Rained out a year ago, participants in the New England Senior Golfers' 87th annual Parrin C. Jarboe Tournament had exquisite weather June 2-3 at their event held at Brae Burn CC and Woodland GC. Paul Collier of Portsmouth CC and Robert Currey of Brae Burn shared low gross honors with 152s, while Robert Milauskas of Winchester CC shot 131 to win low net. The winners of the other divisions were Wally Gardner, 95, of Atlantis CC, who shot a 94, and Richard Crosby of The Strand, who shot his age (77). John Drew of Oyster Harbors aced the par-3 13th at Woodland.

The New England Senior Tour will play a 36-hole event at Quail Ridge CC in Acton next Wednesday and Thursday. With a field of 60 pros and 30 amateurs, the winner's prize will be $8,000. For information, call 978-270-4329, or go to newenglandseniortour.com.

Cape kids clinic
Dennis Highlands GC will host the Cape Cod MGA ForeKids Junior Golf Clinic June 26. For boys and girls 7-15, the clinic is free and equipment will be provided. Session 1 from 8-10 a.m. will be for children 7-10; session 2 from 10:30-12:30 p.m. will be for those 11-12; and session 3 from 1:15-3:15 will be for those 13-15. Attendance is limited to the first 80 children in each session, so pre-registration is necessary. Call the MGA at 1-800-356-2201, Ext. 2210.

Pinehurst or bust
Amateur golfers interested in the PGA of America's McGladrey Team Championship can go to pga.com/teamchampionship for registration information. Qualifying tournaments are being organized and the national championship is Oct. 20-22 at the famed Pinehurst Resort. Teams of three are eligible.
