US Open
Dreams on the line
Sectional qualifying for the US Open takes place Monday, with a number of local players one great day from advancing to Bethpage Black. Each of the 13 sectional qualifiers are 36 holes. Justin Peters of Pembroke will also be in the field in Orlando, trying to qualify at Lake Nona. Women's day
Speaking of trying to get into the US Open, a few New Englanders have advanced out of local qualifying for this year's US Women's Open. Chelsea Curtis of Mashpee, a recent graduate of Georgetown University, survived a playoff after shooting 79 at the Country Club of York (Pa.). Another Massachusetts amateur, Brittany Altomare of Shrewsbury, shot 77 at Rockleigh (N.J.) Golf Course to get through with a few shots to spare, as did Liz Janangelo of West Hartford, who shot 76 there. Briana Vega of Andover, who is playing the Duramed Futures Tour this year, wasn't as fortunate. Vega had a 78 in Parrish, Fla., and missed advancing to sectional qualifying by one shot. The US Women's Open is July 9-12 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
