Kuong to defend
A field of 83 is expected at Vesper Country Club Monday for the 106th Women’s Golf Association of Massachusetts Amateur Championship. Pam Kuong of Charles River, who beat Marion McInerney in last year’s final at Salem Country Club, will be the No. 1 seed when match play begins Tuesday . . . Chelsea Curtis had rounds of 79-72-68 to win the 53d New England Women’s Golf Association championship at Metacomet Country Club in East Providence. Curtis, a recent Georgetown graduate, won by four strokes over Sarah Whitney (79-71-73), a William & Mary student from Hingham. Isabel Southard (76-79-68) from Blue Hill Country Club in Canton won the junior tournament, Nancy Chafee (87-84-84) of Rhode Island Country Club captured the legends title, and Annette Gaiotti (79-80-78) of Olde Barnstable took home the senior crown . . . Bata and Lauren Milosh of Framingham Country Club won the WGAM’s Mother & Daughter tournament last week with an 82 at Green Hill Municipal Golf Course. Maureen and Kelly Sullivan (82) of Butter Brook Golf Club won Division 2, while Mary Jane and Kelly Wagner of Quail Ridge Country Club shot 49 to win the nine-hole competition in Division 3. For the member/junior event, also at Green Hill, Deb Annese and Mary Mulcahy won Division A with a 77, while Chris Coughlin and Maddy Vergura shot 42 in Division B.

London calling
This week, in recognition of the British Open, Granite Links Golf Club is offering free trips for two to London for anyone joining the semi-private club in Quincy. The final day of the British Open (most likely Sunday) will be the final day of the special promotion. Anyone becoming a member at Granite Links this week receives airfare for two, with four nights at a five-star London hotel and ground transportation to and from Heathrow Airport. There are a few restrictions, but travel dates are flexible. Granite Links will also provide two complimentary tickets to the Patriots-Buccaneers game at Wembley Stadium for those taking advantage of the promotion who want to go to London in October. Three winners
Three two-man teams shared the low score at the New England PGA pro-pro event at Mt. Pleasant Country Club. The Black Rock duo of Evan Belcher and Brian Spitz, Paul Parajeckas (Pleasant Valley) and Greg Yeomans (Bay Club at Mattapoisett), and Troy Pare (Wannamoisett) and Scott Spence (Carnegie Abbey) all had 36-hole scores of 13-under 131 . . . Jim Burke of Leo J. Martin Golf Course shot 72 at Needham Golf Club to win the pro division of the NEPGA’s pro-member event. John Hickson (Dick’s Sporting Goods), Art Phillips, Tom Alessi, and Don Salamone won the team event with a score of 138 . . . Andy Fisher (The Country Club) shot a 3-under 68 to win the NEPGA’s pro-junior event at Brookline Golf Course at Putterham Meadows. Fisher teamed with Will Caro, Ian Ballantyne, and Brian Corcoran to capture the team event with an 8-under 63.

Mai wins at home
Andy Mai used his home-course knowledge to great benefit last week, winning the PGA Junior Series event at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick. Competing in the 16-18 age group, Mai, from Suffield, Conn., had rounds of 71-73 to win by one stroke over Brandon Dalinka of Newtown, Pa. Two Massachusetts players - Dan Fanion (75-73) of Westfield and Billy McClure (71-77) of Longmeadow - tied for third. In the boys’ 13-15 division, Jason Steele of Georgetown shot 71-72 and won by four over Chris Houston of Gilford, N.H. Luz Cangrejo of Colombia won the girls’ 16-18 division in a playoff, while Nathalie Filler of Bloomfield, Conn., won the girls’ 13-15 division by three strokes.

White Horse set
The White Horse Beach Golf Classic is scheduled for July 25 at Atlantic Country Club in Plymouth. The Mid-Amateur is Sept. 15-17 at Haverhill Country Club, and players must be 25 years or older. Handicap limit is 5.4, and there are five qualifying sites . . . Entries for the Massachusetts Father & Daughter championship also close today. The tournament is Aug. 24 at Willowbend Country Club. Recent winners at Boston Amateur Golf Society events included Jeff Mucciarone of Westwood, who shot 74 at Meadow Creek, and Lew Weitman from Cambridge, who had a 75 at Wentworth Hills . . . Jim Cardosa of Arlington had a 3-over 75 at Crumpin-Fox to take low gross in a Tour of Greater Boston tournament. Mark Stinehour (71) of Franklin was low net.
