Vizquel not ready to hang ’em up
Omar Vizquel wants to extend his term as the oldest position player in the major leagues. The 42-year-old Rangers infielder said he’s planning to play another season. “I’m going to play. I’m going to try to give it another shot,’’ Vizquel said before Texas’s home finale against Tampa Bay. “I still feel physically pretty good. When my body feels like that, I better take advantage of it.’’ Vizquel is wrapping up his 21st major league season, his first in Texas. He signed with the Rangers last winter knowing he would serve primarily as a mentor to rookie shortstop Elvis Andrus. West expected at Cavaliers’ camp
Cavaliers guard Delonte West, facing gun possession charges, is expected to report to Cleveland’s training camp today. West was arrested Sept. 17 after police said he was carrying two concealed handguns and a shotgun when he was pulled over on a three-wheel motorcycle near his Maryland home. Carrying an unlicensed handgun is a misdemeanor in that state. The Cavaliers have had little to say about West since his arrest, but general manager Danny Ferry confirmed that West will be at camp on time. West, who suffers from a bipolar disorder, was excused from camp for several weeks last year to get treatment for depression. He faces a likely suspension from the NBA, but commissioner David Stern will not likely hand one down until the criminal case against West is resolved.Miscellany
