EDISON, N.J. - Deutsche Bank Championship officials are taking special precautions this weekend to deal with Hurricane Irene, taking down smaller temporary structures and signage around TPC Boston, and heavily reinforcing larger structures.

What remains to be seen is how much damage is done to the golf course, with high winds potentially bringing down trees and heavy rains flooding low-lying areas. Monday’s pro-am, which was closed to the public, has been canceled.

“My biggest concern right now is how much rain Hurricane Irene will bring,’’ said Tom Brodeur, TPC Boston’s greens superintendent.

It’s the second straight year the tournament has had a hurricane to possibly deal with. Last year, Hurricane Earl was headed toward New England, but didn’t make a direct hit. First-round tee times were moved up, but Earl wasn’t much of a nuisance.
