McGreevy has early lead at US Junior Amateur

At the US Junior Amateur, played in Stratham, N.H., at the Golf Club of New England, Max McGreevy of Oklahoma City shot a 4-under-par 68 to lead after one round of stroke-play qualifying.

Four players, including 2010 champion Jim Liu, were two shots back at 70. Connor Greenleaf of Windham, N.H., was the leading New Englander after opening with 74. Others included Jake Shuman (75) of Needham, Chelso Barrett (76) of Keene, N.H., Danny Guise (76) of Greenwich, Conn., James Park (79) of Deerfield, David Thompson (80) of Shrewsbury, and Brian Butler (81) of West Hartford, Conn. The low 64 after 36 holes will advance to match play

Megan Khang of Rockland shot 81, and Isabel Southard of Sharon opened with 82 at the US Girls Junior Amateur, held at Lake Merced Golf Club in Daly City, Calif. Ariya Jutanugarn of Thailand had a 1-under-par 71 and was the early first-round leader.
