Red, white, and blue
Americans are in the top three spots as second-round play continues at the US Women's Open. Cristie Kerr, who began the day a shot behind, is now two strokes in front. Kerr has had an up-and-down day: five pars, five birdies, three bogeys through 12 holes. She's 4 under par, two up on Jean Reynolds, who is even par for her round and has played eight holes.
Paula Creamer was briefly tied for the lead, but just bogeyed No. 2, her 11th hole, and is tied with Eun Hee Ji for third at 1 under.
Brittany Altomare, the 18-year-old from Shrewsbury, is struggling during her second round, and will need to make a number of birdies coming in to make the 36-hole cut. Altomare played her first five holes in 6 over, and has been having trouble on these quick greens, taking 20 putts over her first eight holes.
Briana Vega will also need to make quite a charge to make the cut. Vega, from Andover, is 4 over for the day through eight holes and 14 over for the tournament.
