Travelers updates
CROMWELL, Conn. -- Charley Hoffman has taken control of the Travelers Championship, playing his first 13 holes in 7 under to grab a two-shot lead at TPC River Highlands.
Hoffman, winner of the 2010 Deutsche Bank Championship, started the day three shots behind co-leaders Brian Davis and Roland Thatcher, and in a tie for sixth. But he's made no bogeys, and has seven birdies through 14 holes. He's reached 16 under, two strokes up on Marc Leishman, who shot 62 and is the leader in the clubhouse.
Bubba Watson, winner of the 2010 Travelers, and Tim Clark are tied for third at 13 under, while Davis and defending champion Fredrik Jacobson are another shot back at 12 under.
James Driscoll of Boston, beginning the round tied for third, briefly held a share of the final-round lead, but hit his tee shot on the 10th hole out of bounds, leading to a double bogey. Driscoll, looking for his first win, is 11 under through 12 holes, tied for seventh.
Hunter Mahan was in the first group out, made pars on his first five holes, then birdied nine of his final 13, shooting 29 on the back nine. Mahan's 61 is the low score of the tournament, and is his career low on the PGA Tour. He jumped from a tie for 69th to a tie for third when his round was complete; he's tied for ninth now.
