Coyotes slip past Ducks

Skid vs. Anaheim ends at 8

Shane Doan and Fredrik Sjostrom scored 13 seconds apart late in the third period to lead Phoenix to a 2-0 victory over visiting Anaheim last night, snapping the Coyotes' eight-game losing streak against the Ducks.

Michael Tellqvist made 29 saves for his third career shutout and first for the Coyotes, who won for just the second time in seven games (2-4-1).

The Ducks, winners of 12 of their last 14, had won 10 of their last 11 against Phoenix. Anaheim was shut out for the second time this season.

Islanders 4, Blue Jackets 0 -- Rick DiPietro stopped 26 shots for his third shutout this season and host New York beat Columbus for the first time. Jason Blake, Trent Hunter, Mike Sillinger, and Viktor Kozlov each scored for New York, 0-5-2 in seven previous games against Columbus.

Blues 3, Sabres 2 -- Bill Guerin scored his second goal in overtime to lift host St. Louis to a season-high third straight win.

Sharks 4, Flames 1 -- Marcel Goc, Milan Michalek, Mark Smith, and Scott Hannan scored, and Evgeni Nabokov made 21 saves for his fourth straight victory for host San Jose.

Capitals 3, Maple Leafs 2 -- Alexander Ovechkin scored his 24th goal, Olaf Kolzig made 35 saves, and visiting Washington held on to down Toronto.

Thrashers 5, Devils 2 -- Shane Hnidy scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, and Slava Kozlov padded the lead midway through the third, lifting host Atlanta to its third straight win overall and third in a row over New Jersey.

Lightning 4, Rangers 3 -- Dan Boyle had three goals and an assist during a four-goal third period, helping Tampa Bay hand visiting New York its fifth straight loss.

Wild 3, Red Wings 2 -- Pierre-Marc Bouchard beat Chris Osgood on a breakaway in overtime to give host Minnesota a win over Detroit.

Senators 6, Flyers 3 -- Daniel Alfredsson scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 11:35 left, and visiting Ottawa extended Philadelphia's franchise-record losing streak to nine games.

Hurricanes 3, Panthers 2 -- Erik Cole scored 1:59 into overtime and Carolina beat host Florida for its fourth straight win.

Predators 7, Kings 0 -- Jason Arnott, J.P Dumont and David Legwand each scored twice and Chris Mason had 34 saves to lead host Nashville.

Avalanche 3, Blackhawks 2 -- In Denver, Wojtek Wolski scored twice and Jose Theodore stopped 17 shots for his first win since Dec. 7.

Stars 3, Oilers 2 -- Jon Klemm had a goal and and assist for his first two points of the season and Marty Turco stopped 20 shots to lead host Dallas to its third win in four games.
