Sharks (57 shots) can't sink Predators
Ville Koistinen scored with 2:32 left in overtime, and Dan Ellis made 54 saves against San Jose's franchise-record shooting barrage in the Nashville Predators' 4-3 victory last night at San Jose, Calif.
Ryan Suter and Vernon Fiddler scored tying goals in the third period for Nashville, and Ellis's brilliance kept his club in a one-sided game. Jason Arnott also scored for the Predators, who snapped a three-game losing streak and ended the Sharks' nine-game home winning streak.
Devin Setoguchi had two goals and an assist while matching the club record with 10 shots for the Sharks, who lost at home for the first time this season.
San Jose shattered the franchise record of 50 shots well before overtime, finishing with 57 - but only Setoguchi and Rob Blake managed to beat Ellis, the former journeyman goalie in just his second full season with the Predators.
Penguins 7, Red Wings 6 - Jordan Staal had a hat trick in the third period and set up Ruslan Fedotenko's goal with 1:11 left in overtime, lifting Pittsburgh to a comeback win in Detroit in a rematch of last spring's Stanley Cup finals.
Detroit's Marian Hossa had two assists against the team he left as a free agent to chase a Cup with defending champion Detroit.
Staal's second goal with 4:09 left pulled Pittsburgh within one, then he forced overtime by scoring on a rebound off defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom.
Canadiens 4, Senators 0 - Chris Higgins scored three goals and Carey Price got his first shutout of the season to lead host Montreal.
Higgins scored a shorthanded goal 7:22 in before extending the Canadiens' lead to 2-0 with his second of the game 14:11 into the second. He completed his first career hat trick in the third.
Alex Auld made 27 saves for Ottawa, which lost its second straight.

Flyers 3, Islanders 1 - Danny Briere gave the Flyers a second-period lead before leaving with a lower-body injury, and Martin Biron made 35 saves to lift Philadelphia at Uniondale, N.Y.
Briere has scored in each of his last two games since making a quick return following abdominal surgery. He came back Saturday night after a six-game absence.
Flames 4, Maple Leafs 3 - Dustin Boyd had two goals and host Calgary held on against Toronto.
