Conklin, Wings slow Blackhawks

Ty Conklin made 36 saves for his seventh NHL shutout, and Johan Franzen scored twice to lift the Red Wings to a 4-0 win in Detroit last night that snapped the Chicago Blackhawks' team-record, nine-game winning streak.

Pavel Datsyuk added a goal and an assist, Tomas Kopecky scored his second of the season, and Brian Rafalski and Niklas Kronwall each had two assists in the Red Wings' 700th game against Chicago.

Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 35 shots for Chicago in the start of a home-and-home series that will conclude tomorrow at Wrigley Field in the Winter Classic. The Blackhawks had earned at least 1 point in 11 consecutive games.

Datsyuk's power-play goal with 4:09 left in the first period opened the scoring. He beat Khabibulin with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle for his 15th goal.

Chicago dominated early, outshooting Detroit, 12-1, in the first 9:21, but couldn't solve Conklin. The former University of New Hampshire standout, who earned his third shutout this season, made several outstanding saves to keep the game scoreless.

Flyers 3, Canucks 2 - Jeff Carter had a goal and an assist in visiting Philadelphia's win, but lost top forward Simon Gagne just 15 seconds into the game.

Gagne was driven hard into the boards by Kevin Bieksa and didn't return after being diagnosed with an undisclosed upper body injury. Gagne (40 points) left the ice favoring his left shoulder.

Scott Hartnell and Jon Kalinski also scored for the Flyers. Daniel Sedin and Ryan Kesler netted Vancouver's goals.

Canadiens 2, Lightning 1 - Maxim Lapierre scored the winning shootout goal, and visiting Montreal beat Tampa Bay.

Guillaume Latendresse scored in regulation for Montreal, which has won five of six. Vinny Prospal scored for the Lightning.

Capitals 4, Sabres 2 - Nicklas Backstrom had a goal and assist, and Jose Theodore made 31 saves to lead visiting Washington.

Chris Bourque, the son of Hall of Famer Ray Bourque, netted his first NHL goal, and Brooks Laich and Boyd Gordon also scored for the Capitals, who won for the ninth time in 10 games.

Maple Leafs 4, Thrashers 3 - Curtis Joseph made 29 saves to earn his first win of the season and the 450th victory of his NHL career and Pavel Kubina scored 33 seconds into overtime to lift host Toronto past Atlanta.

Devils 4, Blues 3 - Zach Parise scored twice and visiting New Jersey earned its fifth win in seven games by beating St. Louis.

Senators 3, Oilers 2 - Brian Lee scored his first NHL goal midway through the third period, lifting visiting Ottawa past Edmonton.
