Martin Brodeur moved within two wins of tying Patrick Roy's NHL career record, making 35 saves in the New Jersey Devils' 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames last night at Newark.

Jamie Langenbrunner, Brian Rolston, and Zach Parise scored, and the Devils killed off six of seven power plays in helping Brodeur post victory No. 549. New Jersey tied the franchise record with its eighth straight home victory, and won for the 10th time in the last 13 games.

Brodeur could tie Roy's mark in Montreal Saturday, provided he and the Devils beat Phoenix at home tomorrow.

Canadiens 4, Oilers 3 - Saku Koivu scored twice, including a power-play goal 1:40 into overtime, and Montreal celebrated Bob Gainey's return to coaching by defeating Edmonton at the Bell Centre.

Koivu deflected Mathieu Schneider's point shot past Dwayne Roloson for the winner after he tied it with 4:35 left in regulation on a goal that required a lengthy video review.

Penguins 4, Panthers 3 - Evgeni Malkin scored Pittsburgh's first goal, then decided the shootout for the Penguins, who rallied from two goals down in the third period to beat visiting Florida for their seventh consecutive victory.

Kris Letang and Malkin each got the puck past Tomas Vokoun as the Penguins won their second shootout in three days, following a 4-3 decision Sunday in Washington.

Capitals 2, Predators 1 - Sergei Fedorov scored 2:20 into overtime to give the Capitals a victory at Nashville.

The Capitals snapped a season-worst four-game losing streak while the Predators dropped their second straight after winning six in a row.

Flyers 5, Sabres 2 - Jeff Carter scored two goals in the third period, Scott Hartnell also had a pair, and host Philadelphia toppled Buffalo.

Martin Biron made 27 saves and Mike Richards added a power-play goal for the Flyers, who strengthened their hold on fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Sharks 5, Wild 4 - At St. Paul, Christian Ehrhoff's overtime shot sailed over Minnesota goalie Niklas Backstrom's stick and salvaged a badly needed victory for San Jose, which blew a three-goal lead.

Owen Nolan scored two goals in the last six-plus minutes of regulation against his old team to tie the game for Minnesota.

Red Wings 3, Coyotes 2 - Johan Franzen's goal 3:35 into overtime lifted host Detroit over Phoenix, which has lost six of seven.

Blues 5, Stars 2 - David Perron had two goals, and host St. Louis scored on three of its first eight shots as it moved into 11th place in the West.

Thrashers 3, Avalanche 0 - Atlanta's Kari Lehtonen had 35 saves at Denver to earn his third shutout of the season.

Maple Leafs 3, Islanders 2 - Mikhail Grabovski's first goal in 18 games gave host Toronto an overtime victory.
